Early this year, an opportunity to take on a similar daunting project presented itself to me. I was asked by Mimma Benz to write a column for Weddings at Work. [/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/12557878_1223556871006350_97522810_o.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]I have to admit that I was apprehensive at first. What was I going to do with a column? I’m a designer, not a writer, I thought.

But later on I realized that fashion and writing can effectively mix and I am more than willing to use the knowledge I have acquired over my years of experience in the wedding industry to inform others, coach budding wedding suppliers, and give fearless forecasts on fashion trends.

So what should readers expect from this column? None of the usual tips on how to plan your big day, W@W already has a primer (and an effective one at that!) for engaged couples.

My column will focus more on the trends, cuts, shades, silhouettes, and do’s and dont’s of bridal fashion. Pauleen Luna: Behind her Bridal Boudoir

News about their wedding preparations pepper the web and social media. But here in WaW, we are always looking for stories behind the scenes because we believe that these are the moments that capture the essence of every event.

So we hooked up with Arlene Briones of The Boudoir Dolls to find out what it was like to work with Pauleen for her bridal boudoir shoot so we can share it here in WaW.

“Shooting any celebrity may be daunting at first because they simply are what they are – stars,” says Arlene. She admits that she and her team had some notions prior to the shoot, but the actress’ arrival at the shoot proved more refreshing than they expected.

“You’d think a celebrity would usually come with an entourage,” says Arlene, “but she quietly arrived with a personal assistant and that’s when the makeup artists & stylists starting adding more magic on her.”

The photo shoot took only two hours as according to Arlene, Pauleen was easy to work with.

“A boudoir shoot is like a dance between a woman and the photographer and Pauline was easy to direct. As with any normal boudoir shoot we have, women would naturally start moving on their own, which was she did and we just snapped away. For most women, confidence builds up during a shoot but for Pauleen it was already inherent to begin with,” she says, clearly impressed by her subject.

“Up close & personal she is very classy and we’re glad to have taken part in her journey to one of the biggest milestones of her life,” Arlene adds.

Pauleen did not have a hand in the concept of her bridal boudoir. Arlene explains, “She left the concept up to us which was Old Hollywood and Nostalgic. We had an old theatre to work with, and some movies playing on the projector.”

She continues, What was different for this shoot was that it wasn’t done in a bedroom (where most boudoir shoots are done) but in a old theatre which we thought fit Pauleen’s showbiz life perfectly.”

We asked Arlene how the entire experience was like working with Pauleen and her take was: “In every portrait shoot, we get a glimpse of the real person in front of the lens, we can usually see it in their eyes, their smile, the way they move.”

Arlene continues. “We loved how this shoot was a little toned down. When someone is really that beautiful & sophisticated, you don’t need to show that much skin to exude sexy. Which boils down to what we want boudoir to be all about – comfortable in your own skin, whatever you’re wearing, wherever you are.”

She notes,“With Pauleen it was a quiet kind of confidence. One you know who has gone through a lot but has become victorious.” [/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Arlene-Pauline-Madoka.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_text](Photo above: Pauleen Luna with Arlene Briones and Madoka of The Boudoir Dolls.)

The Wedding Tip Sheet are practical tips on how to plan, coordinate and organize your wedding efficiently. [/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Did you just get engaged?

After the initial high of the proposal comes the daunting task of planning for the wedding and your life together as husband and wife.

How does one start planning for a wedding?

Below are some suggested steps:

A.Inform your parents of your plan to get married before all other details.

Avoid planning in secret. Have them say their two cents at the beginning. That’s easier than having to deal with changes when you’ve already prepared and booked a lot of suppliers.

Important Note: Join the Weddings at Work community so you can get feedback from real couples regarding your plans and prospective suppliers.

B. Decide on what kind of wedding you want to have — intimate, mid-size, or big; within the metro or out of town; formal or laidback.

Scout for suppliers to have a general idea regarding how much they cost, then plan, and make a realistic budget before even booking anybody.

You don’t need to ask each supplier for a rate sheet, that would be too time consuming on your part.
Check out their websites first and/or ask fellow brides/grooms regarding feedback and fees.

C. Decide on your ceremony venue.

The ceremony reservation gives you a final date and an anchor for reserving your reception venue.

It also gives you a chance to send inquiries to suppliers because you have a final date and a ceremony venue. Yes, you need to include those details — including the reception venue — when you inquire so suppliers can determine availability and give you correct out of town rates, if applicable.

Before booking your ceremony venue, ask about restrictions. That way, you won’t be surprised about additional fees and things you can’t do.

In other words, before parting with your hard earned money, do your research. You won’t be able to get a refund once you’ve given your downpayment to reserve the slot.

D. After you’ve booked your ceremony venue, you can go on a hunt for your reception venue.

Consider proximity to your ceremony area, parking, and your chance to have control over choosing your suppliers. Some reception venues have supplier restrictions and accreditation requirements.

E. Now that you have your venues, you can short list 3-5 suppliers per category, then locate the ones who best match your budget, taste, and personality.

“No commitment meetings” need not be done personally. One can also opt for online meetings to gauge how prospective suppliers deal with possible clients.

Focus first on those who can’t do more than one wedding a day.

Remember to research before booking, but take isolated negative feedback with a grain of salt.

Important note: A lot of well meaning friends and relatives will be as excited and will volunteer their services or the services of friends. Remember that more often than not, it’s still better to book your own suppliers and avoid relying on friendship or blood ties. Things can get problematic and you don’t want to feel awkward dealing with these friends and relatives in other parties or gatherings after your wedding.

I think I’ve said a mouthful already and I may have caused you to feel overwhelmed. (I hope not…)

Tip: Simplify. Do things step by step to avoid feeling like you’re drowning in details. Start with the ones you really need then add the fancy details later.

And when you’re feeling too daunted, you can always rely on the sharing and words of wisdom of your w@w brothers and sisters, as well as the responses and recommendations of the suppliers you’ve booked.

She is simple and she didn’t want the limelight on her for her 18th bday.

But around August 2015, I was blessed to have had the privilege to shoot the campaign ads for Mega tuna. During the shoot, my long time friend, Ogie Diaz (Liza’s manager), introduced me to Liza’s tita Joni. That day, she told me her wish to give the beautiful Liza a surprise debut. Not the traditional one, but one that liza would really love. So I asked her what are the “likes” of Liza which she enumerated — the outdoors, relaxed feel, the beach.

Hence, the “Amazing Race” sports fest party came up and we thought of the bohemian/ glamorous camping type of dinner party for Liza.

Liza thought there was going to be a simple dinner to celebrate the salubong (eve) of her debut. Little did she know that it was a well planned, well thought of party in her honor.

Wedding Suppliers at Work on Holidays

[x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_text]Since the holidays had just passed, we couldn’t help but wonder what it’s like for wedding suppliers to work on Christmas or New Year’s eve/day?

You might be surprised to find out that some weddings are held on these most important dates of the holiday season but it’s not common, that’s why we were curious how it was for them.

So we asked. And we received some really interesting answers from them too. Let us share with you a glimpse of a wedding supplier’s life during the holidays!
[/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/2.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_text]Different stories from different folks

The ones we talked to each had a different take on their experiences. Photographer Mimi Abesamis said that everyone at the wedding was so relaxed even when it was raining hard that day, including the bride who wasn’t worried about her wedding being delayed by an hour. “She was the only one getting married in the chapel that day anyway,” she said.

Noel Salazar, a photographers, also said that although he missed joining his family’s Christmas Eve dinner, the couple who got married made them all feel welcome and fed them well.

He also pointed out that there was no traffic going home from Tagaytay where the wedding was held. “As we were on our way home, there was no traffic, no toll fees…things that normally happen only during Christmas Eve.”

But not all weddings during the holiday season turn out to be as pleasant. One coordinator felt the pressure from wedding guests who kept asking what time the ceremony was going to end. “(From the) point of view of the couple, it was just an ordinary day given they belong to a religious denomination that does not celebrate Christmas, but sa point of view of the guests, you see they are reluctant and just wanted to be with their families. They kept asking if the program was going to be long.”
[/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/3.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_text]The Family Factor

What about their families? Did they mind being away from their families?

“I felt frustrated and remorseful that I accepted what was supposed to be time spent for family,” coordinator Berlyn Yap admits about her experience. From thereon, she had been declining work from December 20 and only resumes on January 5 so she can celebrate the season with her family.

Liza Alviedo, also a wedding coordinator, shares the same sentiment. “Felt guilty sa family, because we still had so many family gatherings and activities that was cut short because I needed to be in Manila… Felt inggit (envious) also seeing families together sa lobby lounge Ng Manila Pen (where the event was).”

She continues, “I will never do it again… Family muna talaga, young pa ang kids, they need to feel the importance of choosing family first.”

On the other hand, photographer Noel Salazar says that he wasn’t married when he accepted work on New Year’s Eve. “I lived in Ortigas that time, and the wedding was in EDSA Shang, so lapit lang (the venue was near my place). Pero kung medyo malayo, maybe magsecond thoughts ako (But if it’s far, I will have second thoughts about accepting). Tsaka hindi na ako papayagan ng asawa ko (Also, my wife will not allow me),” he laughs.

Photographer Ayvih Delos Reyes said they didn’t mind accepting work on Christmas day of 2011 because they didn’t miss anything anyway.

She explains, “We didn’t miss any of the festivities naman the night before so okay lang and our staff are not drinkers so no one’s hung over. Puyat lang (We lacked sleep).”

Noel Salazar agrees that it depends on the time of the wedding. “I wouldn’t mind, IF say, it was a morning wedding of Dec. 24.”

Others think otherwise.

“Thinking about it,” says wedding coordinator Teena Barretto, “December 24, 25, 31, January 1 lang ang pahinga ‘pag December (December 24, 25, 31, January 1 are the only rest days). I’d give those days to myself. Mimi Abesamis said that their Christmas day experience was unplanned. They did not expect their client to agree to them charging extra when a fellow supplier asked them if they were willing to cover a wedding on Christmas day. “The client was willing, so there, our first Christmas Day wedding booking.”

According to Teena Barretto, “At that time, (the standard was) base rate plus out-of-town fee plus holiday surcharge. I wasn’t able to do double rate because of the affinity.”

Teena’s client, the mother of the bride, was referred to her by a very good friend of hers.

Ayvih Delos Reyes said that their client doubled their rate.

Berlyn Yap, though, didn’t charge a higher rate. Neither did Noel Salazar. “For me walang logic to charge more just ‘cause it’s peak season or Christmas. It’s the supplier’s choice naman to accept or not. Although syempre, kung mamimigay ng pamasko yung client, hindi naman ako tatanggi, haha (but of course, if the client is generous, I will not refuse)!”

“I was actually blindsided. Client booked na blank day pa in January, according to her she has yet to finalize but she just wants to book me na para sure (to be sure),” Liza Alviedo reasons. “I actually charged extra when client revealed na January 1, kasi double pay ang staff (the staff was paid double).”

Mimi Abesamis experienced her Christmas day work at a time she didn’t have kids yet. “We probably won’t be doing it again now, unless the price is right, haha!” she jokes.

We asked our suppliers the difference between covering a wedding on Christmas or New Year compared to regular days and most of them didn’t think anything was particularly different.

“We didn’t feel like the couple or the guests minded that it was New Year. It was just like a “normal” wedding day. It was a Chinese wedding of around 500 guests, maybe more and the ballroom was full,” says Ayvih Delos Reyes.

For Teena Barretto however, “Well, guests either attended to party the night away or for attendance checking only then fly na. I had guests coming in and out. There were guests arriving for the countdown party, and other guests leaving right after dinner to make it to their family gathering.”

“The groom specifically wanted a photo with the Christmas tree,” says Noel Salazar, then adds, “What’s nice is that I think I was able to have a bond with the other members of the team, because parang just for that one night, kami-kami lang ang “magpamilya” na magkakasama pauwi sa van (For one night, we were like a family sharing the same van on our way home).”[/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section][x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_text]All photos by Paul Vincent Photography.[/x_text][/x_column][/x_row][/x_section]

Join and Be a WaWie!

Are you planning your wedding and don’t know where to start? Do you need to hook up with the best wedding coordinators, photographers, couturiers, stylists, jewelers, limo rental shops and wedding souvenir shops? Are you looking for tips on how to wisely allocate your wedding budget?

Then you’ve come to the right place. But wait! Our WaWie community actually has more to offer than that.

We browsed through our archive on what our WaWies have to say about their experiences in being part of the WaW community, and here’s what they said:

1. You will be able to draw out reliable reviews and feedback on suppliers.

The web is full of reviews and features on different wedding suppliers, but if you want authentic feedback, it’s best to hear them from our community of WaWies who have experienced them firsthand.

Don’t you think it’s more fun to know someone else who has worked with the same supplier as you? It takes the stress out of the planning!

“It (the WaWie community) has been helpful in terms of getting to know different suppliers and feedback about their work” – Ann Kimberly Pascua

“WaW helped me most in wisely choosing my suppliers. It is a great source of information, recommendation, and feedback that we won’t get in blogs and fairs” – Joanne

2. You can gather practical and useful tips in planning your wedding.

The WaWie community can serve you a buffet of ideas in planning your wedding. You don’t know where and how to begin? No problem. Your WaWie sisters will surely give you sound advice on it.

“After my fiancè proposed to me, I really didn’t have any ideas on wedding suppliers and wedding activities. Basically, I didn’t have any idea how to prepare and where to start, but because of WaW, I have gained ideas for wedding preps, plus the help and shared ideas of co-WaW bride-to-be’s”– Laarmie Pinlac

3. You have access to the ultimate source wedding suppliers.

WaW has a directory of the best wedding suppliers in the land. And they’re not only part of a list, they’re actually part of our NaW family. In fact, some of them were former WaW’s-turned-NaW’s.

Hey, we don’t recommend dregs; we only endorse THE best!

“I actually found and booked my OTD coordinator through WaW which is Imbitado events” – Danielle Louise Villarante

“It has also been a great community in building surprising friendships. My co-May 2015 brides were a great source of joy and comfort during the entire preps time. I’ve met some of them and until now, most of us still do frequent updates on married life” – Joanne

“This is our shock and stress absorber! This support community makes each couple wedding planning enjoyable. I’m also glad that I also get to help other soon-to-wed couples. Plus you get to have new friends. I love weddings at work!”

A princess bride, a DIY bride, a budget bride, a nature obsessed bride, a techie bride, or bordering on bridezilla, whatever bride you may be, you are sure to find home with other WaWies.

“I dont believe in a grandiose type of wedding. Medyo kuripot kasi ako (I’m a bit of a tightwad). And because of that, I’ve always thought na kakaiba ako sa mga engaged friends ko (I’ve always thought that I was different from my other engaged friends). Mostly kasi ng suppliers nila, high-end suppliers and their budget is almost a million. When I joined WaW, nalaman ko na madami pala kaming budget bride. And hindi na ako nahihiyang pag-usapan ang wedding kasabay ng budget namin. Hehe (When I joined WaW, I realized that there are many other budget brides like me. I didn’t feel shy about discussing our wedding and our budget)”
– Aki Balicha

Winter Wonder NaW

(Editor’s note: They were once WaWies – blushing brides about to commit their lives to the men of their dreams. Fast forward to the present, they come across as well-seasoned in marriage. They’re happy moms and fulfilled wives; some of them are even breastfeeding champs!)

Christmas always triumphs in getting people together. All year long we get busy with our lives, running households, taking care of the children, minding businesses, going to work. Staying in touch is pretty much limited to social media interactions. So when Christmas bells ring to gather friends and family, members of the NewlywedsAtWork don’t think twice about answering the call!

Held at the Camp Crame Multi-Purpose Hall last November 29, 2015, the NaW Christmas party welcomed 196 Nawies, 115 kids, 32 infants and 42 yayas.

w@w first

Dubbed the “Winter Wonder NaW”, members pulled all the stops to make this year’s party a truly magical and memorable one for parents and kids alike. Spearheading the preps were NaWie Apple Cabel of Yan-Ple Party Planner, Jenki Galindo-Fernando who took care of the registration and NaW pioneer member Veronica Alcaneses-Pantig for securing the venue. All the NaWies who attended pitched together for foodcarts and activities. Eats Happy provided the kiddie meals while Daniel Talavera, brother of NaWie Clarice Talavera-Avinante, gamely took the photos.

As with any party, it’s the kids who reap the most. NaWie kids had a wonderful time this year. Game after game engaged the kids all afternoon.

In the NaWie world, relationships are built and nurtured online. Daily chats happen on Yahoo and Facebook groups. Hourly updates are commonplace on the NaWie virtual community. But few and far in between are real life interactions with fellow NaWies. And this is the main reason why NaWies look forward to the annual Christmas party with such eagerness. The camaraderie and sisterhood that have grown on the web suddenly become actual experiences. Virtual smileys become beautiful and genuine smiles. Hugs are now tangible touches. Even hellos have voices.  Gone are the little round yellow grinning emoticons. In its place are real faces, real smiles that come from the heart.

May Mislang-Esteban, wife to Kim and mom to toddler Keith, looks forward to the “personal chikahan with my cyber friends” while for Jenki the best part of the NaW Christmas party is “seeing the faces behind the names, meeting new friends and those gigil babiesss! Feeling ko may anak na din ako sa dami ng kids!”

minnie_mouse_dress

It’s a merry mixture of emotions – like greeting a long lost friend or seeing a sister after a long absence.

The bond that keeps NaWies intact is one-of-a-kind. The friendship among former WaWies who bonded together for a short while to prepare for their weddings has moved into another level. In this Mommy groupie, conversations take on a different nature like starting a family, being first time Moms, breastfeeding plus the highs and lows of married life. For Tin, wife to Marvin and mom to Mazie, NaW is better than Google. You get intelligent in sights and various opinions from people from different backgrounds. What sets it apart is that there is always respect among all members.”

Whatever the discussions are, no matter how numerous and branched out the threads will eventually become on NaW, no one ever gets lost because everyone has a place in this community. Every story and question is heard by someone. There is always a NaWie who will understand what you are going through. Because of the natural cycle of the community – a new member is continuously added while all those who came before her never leave – the sharing just becomes richer and richer with each passing day. An advice never grows old as there is always someone who is experiencing something for the first time. For those who have been there and have made it, the desire to impart the knowledge is strong.

Tin adds, “Iba yung insight that I get from NaW eh kasi everyone is so open. You feel their pain, their happiness and their frustrations, their kilig so you all know na may kadamay ka with whatever is going on in your life and the best part is they “GET” whatever it is that you feel.”

The beauty of bring a NaWie is you never ever graduate from this. As a wife and as a mom, the roles are for keeps. Just like the friendships here.

NaW endures because of authentic kindness and love that abound. Here everyone feels safe. A listening ear, a sound advice, a gentle pat on the back, unrepentant laughter and genuine friendship flow effortlessly. Most important of all the focus is on building a loving and caring family. In NaW, you’ll meet your friends for life.

WaW COLOR PLAY: Marsala

It’s month 12 of 2015 and we must have the year’s color on Color Play. So Marsala it shall be! This rich color that gracefully crosses between chic and rustic makes a perfect palette for December weddings. A hue a few notches away from burgundy, marsala evokes the celebratory feeling with its deeper than red wine shade. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” according to Pantone.

Marsala is versatile. You can go all dark shades of roses or use lighter shades of pink and peach to bring out the deep red.

marsala_women_entourage

The same trick can be used when choosing the colors for your girly posse. Bridesmaids dressed in marsala gowns look effortlessly classy. You may also opt for the opposite end of the color spectrum and pick out the lightest hue of nude to create sophisticated flowing gowns for the ladies.

marsala_combi

Whichever shade you choose to match with marsala, your entourage will most definitely nail style and glam.

marsala_groom

The men will easily wear marsala. Not much effort as the color presents a perfect counterpoint to their dapper suits, in black or gray. That marsala splash works its way into their attire either as buttonnieres of red velvet rose or as a tie. Whichever way marsala is an uncomplicated accent to any groom or groomsman’s get up. Just the way men want it.

5 Things to Remember When Getting Married during Rainy Season

[cs_content][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Most brides cringe at the thought of a downpour on their wedding days, especially when they want to hold their ceremonies or their receptions outdoors.

Just imagine mud on your shoes and the trains of your dress, or having all your guests in their suits and cocktail dresses trying to fit under a small roof to avoid getting soaked; Rain can easily turn your special day into a disaster.

It be all that bad. Rain, after all, can be a glorious addition on the day you exchange your I do’s.
We weighed in with some of our W@Wies and got some really great tips on how not to let the rain ruin your wedding day:

1. Get efficient and trustworthy suppliers

Many of the W@Wies raved about how their organizers and suppliers saved their wedding for them and how they didn’t let the bride stress out.

W@Wie Sarah Ingles’ garden-themed wedding was almost relocated indoors, and credits her suppliers for their efficiency.

She shares, “…even if I was quite stressed with the weather pinaubaya ko na lahat sa suppliers ko (I entrusted everything to my suppliers) and they all performed marvellously.”

“Happened to us at Antonio’s,” Nina Comsti said. “Buti na lang may indoor venue and napakagaling ng coordinator mag-troubleshoot!” (It’s a good thing there was an indoor venue and the coordinator was good in troubleshooting)

There are many low-cost organizers and suppliers out there, but it’s in times like the rainy season that you’ll understand why the ones who will cost you a little bit more is worth your investment.

They think on their feet and will make sure everything’s covered even before your notice that anything had gone wrong.

2. Have a Plan B

The most practical thing to do when you schedule your wedding outdoors during rainy season is to have a contingency plan.

Make sure that you have tents and umbrellas ready, and brainstorm with your coordinator on what to do in case the original plan needs to get thrown out the window.

You can even talk to your photographer about using the rain as your backdrop for your wedding photos!

Photographer Noel Salazar advice for would-be brides to just go with whatever happens and adds, “Also, make sure na if rainy season then outdoor wedding, the couple MUST prepare tents. I shot a wedding on the beach while it was raining. Everybody got wet, except for those who had umbrellas.”

Wedding coordinator Ayie Tuates says that she always pushes until there’s no choice but to relocate. She coordinates with the caterer and stylist on how much time they need to spare for the setup and adjusts accordingly.

This is so the setup team will not have too much trouble transferring everything to another venue if it begins to rain.

3. Plan alternative routes going to the venue

Puy Talde reminds suppliers to coordinate a travel plan. “Rains = baha (flood) = traffic,” he says. “If I can’t send an advance party, I tell the driver to stay close to the bridal car even if the route that the bridal car takes doesn’t make sense. At least you arrive in church with the bride.”

You should also make sure that your guests are provided a copy of an alternative route to your wedding venue especially if you’re getting married out of town. This way you can be sure that they are going the best routes possible to make it to your wedding on time.

4. Hire the best entertainers

Since you’re all going to stay indoors for a while, make sure that you have good entertainment lined up.

W@Wie Charo shares about her cousin’s wedding in Phuket last year. She says that the light rain during the ceremony made the wedding look more romantic. They had to transfer to the villa for the reception as the rain started getting stronger, and the cultural performers and the fire dancers entertained the guests while they waited for the tables to be set up. “Galing ng coordinator!” She gushes. “Naging maayos pa rin lahat.” (Everything still turned out well)

5. Keep your sense of humor

One of the things that brides need to remember is to have a sense of humor. You don’t need to crack jokes to entertain your guests, but try to see the best in every situation.

W@Wie Cris Zanrie Cruz attended a wedding when a rumbling of thunder happened while the bride was saying her vows. “It was remarkable! Instead of being sad about the weather, nag-joke yung bride nung kumulog nung vow niya.” (The bride made a joke about the thunder)

Letting the rains affect you may ruin your day completely. Just keep calm and work with your suppliers.

One of our N@Wies who was once a W@Wie, Naj Fernandine, talks about her experience with a storm during a wedding held in Rosemont. She ended up wet along with the coordinators and the photographer’s lens was starting to moisten, but she said that the venue was packed with guests and the event was successful.

“Minsan talaga when the worst comes kayo na lang magkakatrabaho na supplier ang magkakasamang mag-work yun kasal,” she says. “Team work ika nga!” (There will be times when the suppliers are the ones left to make the wedding work. It’s called Team Work.”
“Had a bride before, stressed na stressed kasi it was raining and she wouldn’t be getting her garden wedding, so it was hard to shoot her,” says Noel Salazar.

Focus on the person you will marry, not the weather.

The reality is that sometimes no amount of preparation and planning can make everything alright. At the rate the climate changes are going, rains are bound to happen even in months you are not expecting them to happen.

You should not let it dampen your spirit nor should you let it dictate your day. Don’t spend your days worrying about it, learn how to take it all in stride. Things are better when you don’t stress and you don’t stress everyone around you about it. Just make sure you’ve got a great team behind your wedding and trust them to handle the curves.

As Noel Salazar reminds the brides-to-be, the most important thing in your wedding is the person you’re getting married to and that should be enough to make you smile.

Now, every other couple has their own blog, Pinterest board, wedding sites. Things do change! I remember having to meet all our suppliers and paying them in person. There was no way around it – we had to meet with them. But with the traffic situation now, just thinking of leaving the house might give you a headache (Just think of EDSA and Waze’s red roads!). Besides, now, brides can always communicate with their suppliers through social media, SMS, and what have you’s. Personal meetings are not a must like it used to be. Even downpayments can be done online! This year’s video was made by Aisle 1401. They have been offering to do it since 2 years ago but they kept getting in the Top 10. But since they were last year’s winner, they can now do it!

We shot this at La Mesa Eco Park last November 12 and this has gotta be the shortest shoot ever. We were done by 2:20pm!
Awesome videos by Aisle1401 here. Presenting the 2015 WaW Top 10!
