A marriage proposal worthy of a headline!

couple-nicjack.jpg(via Phil. STAR) For many a Romeo out there, finally popping the big question to his one true love is accompanied by many tense and nerve-wracking moments. Often, the challenge is how to propose in style, in a way that will sweep his ladylove off her feet and make her fall in love with him all over again.

This is what Dominic “Nic” Francisco, 27, had in mind when he planned his big proposal to girlfriend Jacquelyn “Jack” Reyes. This time, he didn’t plan a lavish dinner, or a walkway lined with red rose petals; he actually had it “published” on his girlfriend’s favorite newspaper, which happens to be The Philippine STAR.

It was like something straight out of a movie, a unique request that even The Philippine STAR couldn’t say no to.

Nic, who works as a software developer for Smart Communications, initially thought of doing the proposal in a more traditional fashion. But he thought of a better idea that would surely catch Jack’s attention. “Jack really loves reading, especially The STAR. She spends half the day during weekends reading all the sections of the paper,” he said.

He sent an e-mail to The STAR inquiring about a personalized front page where the question, “Will you marry me?” would be the day’s “headline.” The STAR was more than happy to assist Nic with his request, where the customized front page came complete with an article of Nic recalling the early stages of their relationship and how much they have grown together.

Big day

Nic chose to spring the surprise on Jack’s 27th birthday, giving her the customary flowers and her favorite newspaper neatly tucked under. Clueless, Jack didn’t realize that the day’s edition was a personalized copy, which The STAR helped design for Nic to mount his unique proposal.

But when the surprise began to unfold as she was poring over the special issue, Jack could not contain tears of joy. “It was the most wonderful birthday gift I’ve ever received in my entire life,” she said.

“I saw the roses, and the personalized shirt that said, ‘Will you marry me, Jack?’, but nothing could ever beat seeing the headline printed on my suking newspaper, The Philippine STAR. For an ultra-shy guy like Nic, I know it was an herculean task for him to pull off that stunt,” she reminisces.

Thus, as the self-effacing Nic went down on his knees to ask for her hand, Jack could only give him a resounding “yes!”

Jack, describing her beau as a certified torpe, recalls that it took Nic a couple of dates, countless text messages, and an awkward realization to finally come up to her and admit that he’s in love with her. “That’s why when he finally told me how he did it, he all the more captured my heart. Everyone was in awe of Nic’s idea,” Jack said.

Bright future ahead

The couple is currently in the frenzy of preparations for their wedding, which has been set on Oct. 7, their 55th month together.

“Preparing for our wedding is both stressful and exciting,” shares Nic. “We’ve been going to a lot of bridal fairs to look at the things we need as well as get discounts and freebies from suppliers. Despite the hassle, we still smile a lot because we’re doing this for the two of us. After all, the most important thing is our union.”

“For me, the strength of a relationship is not simply measured by the number of years that you’ve been together. It’s every single day that you share with each other. We’ve gone through a lot but what’s important is that we learned from all these experiences may it be good or bad and now I’m ready to be with the girl that I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

Couples to wed underwater in Hundred Islands Park

 hundredislands.jpg

(via Phil. STAR) Two couples who long dreamed of having an island wedding will finally fulfill their wish when they renew their marriage vows in an underwater wedding today at the  Hundred Islands National Park.Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza, who will officiate the wedding, told The STAR that the wedding will be held inside a cave at the Cuenco Island, about 15 minutes away by boat from Lucap Wharf, the jump-off point to the Hundred Islands.

The couples were Jayson and Myra Llavore and Ricky and Geraldine Joachon, both from Manila. They decided to renew their marriage vows “before God’s majestic natural beauty through the clear waters of the Hundred Islands,” according to the wedding organizer, Winston Santiago.

These couples, however, were not dressed in the usual wedding attire but in their scuba diving gear.

Braganza, himself a scuba diver, said this will be the second time he officiated an underwater civil wedding. Last Valentine’s Day, a couple from Manila also came here for their underground wedding held in another venue at the Hundred Islands, Old Scout Island.

Braganza said during the rites, there was a waterproof small board where their vows were inscribed and a waterproof pen for their signatures where the couples expressed their marriage vows using sign language.

Their principal sponsor was Vice Mayor Cesar Manzano.

“But of course, the real marriage certificate was signed by the bride and groom and their ninong inland,” the mayor said.

The ceremonies will take about an hour, he said.

Braganza said this pre-Valentine’s Day wedding is part of their continuing efforts to showcase the beautiful Hundred Islands managed by the city government as a scuba diving haven and in the future, as the country’s underwater wedding capital for scuba diving enthusiasts.

“We hope that the underwater wedding in Hundred Islands would snowball and become a tradition for couples to come here every Valentine’s Day for this unforgettable experience,” Santiago said.

Mike Sison, city tourism officer, in a separate interview said the guests will partake of a special breakfast as a reception for the three weddings featuring Alaminos’ best-like longganisa, parad (grilled spare ribs), grilled boneless bangus, binongey (glutinous rice cooked inside a piece of bamboo) and local fruits.

Braganza had been holding a sunset civil mass wedding for the past seven years for couples who are already living together without getting married at the Lucap Wharf.

This year, 95 couples form part of the Valentine’s Day civil wedding sponsored by the city government at 3 p.m. today at the Don Leopoldo Sison Auditorium here because of the ongoing construction at the wharf.

Philippine bridal trends for 2011 revealed

morningsanc.jpg

(via ABS-CBNnews.com) There are bridal trends that will never go away, such as the classic white gown and the big balloon skirt.Still, we should always be open to new wedding ideas and concepts so “brides don’t look the same,” said Georgia Schulze, contributing writer for Metro Weddings magazine.

“I hope that changes and brides can be a little more unique,” she said in an interview at Mornings@ANC on Friday.

Schulze said this year is a good time for brides to try adding a splash of color to their wedding gowns.

She said nudes and grays, instead of the usual white, are expected to be a hit this 2011.

Accents, such as a black sash, will be in as well, she added.

Wedding planner Rita Neri agreed with Schulze, saying that Filipino brides are highly unlikely to wear gowns in bold colors such as red and black.

An exception may be singer Regine Velasquez, who matched a bright red dress with high-heeled leather boots as she tied the knot with Ogie Alcasid last year.

“More of accent colors, not really the whole thing. It’s more like dusting of a color,” said Neri, who runs her own events planning company.

Here are some of the bridal trends in the Philippines for 2011, as featured in Mornings@ANC:

  • A touch of nature – add flowers to play up a classic strapless gown. Instead of the traditional roses and calla lilies, use beautiful wildflowers in shades of green, lime and white.
  • Stunning simple – pair a tapered formal tux with a flowing chiffon gown for understated glamour. Use unconventional cuts, wrapped bodices and interesting patterns. Highlight a strapless neckline with a hint of embellishment and textured layers in soft silk chiffon.
  • Water goddess – take your inspiration from water and choose a lightweight material which flatters your figure. Add texture and movement with a wrapped bodice and a shirred skirt.
  • Summer palette – don’t be ruled by whites and blacks. Opt for bright outdoor shades like light blue and pink.
  • Crazy for cream -cream is fast becoming a color of choice for most bridal gowns. Look stunning in a beach celebration with a perfectly cut cream-colored dress with deconstructed layers.

Vice President Binay bans weddings at Coconut Palace

(via Inquirer.net) Engaged couples who plan to hold their wedding reception at the bayside Coconut Palace, will have to go elsewhere.

According to a senior staff member of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), which owns the 33-year-old facility, no more private parties will be allowed at the edifice “as per instructions of the Office of the Vice President (OVP).”

The OVP, which is renting a portion of the seventh floor of the Philippine National Bank Financial Center in Pasay City, will transfer shortly to the Coconut Palace, located at the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex, behind the Folk Arts Theater.

“No dates yet, but the first quarter of the year is our target,” disclosed Joey Salgado, spokesperson and media officer of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

VP’s residence

The Coconut Palace will be the Vice President’s permanent office and official residence.

“Aside from security reasons, it is hard to imagine working there with caterers and wedding or birthday guests, among others, running around,” Salgado told the Inquirer.

Asked about the repairs reportedly being made at the facility, Salgado said, “The floor plan has not yet been finalized, but the OVP is working on it.”

Binay’s new office, which was built in 1978 on orders of then first lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, was a “bargain,” according to Salgado.

“Our monthly rent will just be P400,000, which is half the amount we are paying now at the PNB Financial Center. And the P400,000 to be charged by GSIS is what they earn a month from the wedding and other receptions held at the Coconut Palace,” he said.

The OVP’s monthly rent at the PNB Financial Center still does not include other overhead expenses.

‘Good idea’

Considering the reduction in the OVP budget for 2011—P185.1 million from P187.3 million last year—Salgado noted that moving to the facility was a “good idea.”

Last June, President Aquino offered Binay the Coconut Palace as his official residence.

Aside from this lavish mansion built during the Marcos era, the other option was the old City Hall of Makati City, where Binay served for six terms as mayor.

Binay had thought of holding office there but the building on JP Rizal Street needed to be renovated first. He also joked that he was having trouble getting permission from the new mayor, his son and namesake, Junjun Binay.

To his staff, he complained that the Vice President, often referred to as the “spare tire” in government, did not have a permanent office and an official residence.

Binay’s lament

“A provincial governor has a governor’s mansion. The Vice President comes home to his own house,” Binay once lamented.

At the Coconut Palace, a four-hour reception normally cost P100,000, while a simple guided tour would cost P100 per head, said GSIS staff.

The facility, which stands on a 2.7-hectare property, is estimated to be worth at least P1.2 billion.

The GSIS has spent over P10 million preserving the look and feel of the original edifice, designed by architect Francisco Mañoza and made of several types of Philippine hardwood and coconut shells.

It has been used as a guest house for official guests of the Marcos government, like Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and US show biz stars Brooke Shields and George Hamilton.

The Philippines – an emerging wedding destination for a new generation of Indians

An article appearing recently in Express TravelWorld says there is a growing market in Destination Weddings among Indian nationals.  It notes that Thailand attracts one of the highest number of Indian weddings annually.  And the Philippines, having hosted two Indian wedding in Cebu last year, also has potential for growth especially as Philippine Airlines launches direct flights between Manila and Delhi by March 2011.

Below is an excerpt from the article ‘I do’ on distant shores by Sudipta Dev:

Indian weddings get bigger and fatter, destination weddings have become an aspiration for the new generation of millionaires in the country. Though an emerging segment, the high returns is leading international tourism boards, airlines and hotels to concentrate on targeting this niche market.

For an industry that is estimated to be worth `1,90,000 crore and growing at an aggressive rate of 25 per cent per annum, Indian weddings is a behemoth market segment that has been spurred by the spending powers of high net worth individuals who are growing in numbers by the day.  As Indian weddings get fatter and bigger, the aspirational values also reach a highpoint – in the last five years, or so, the craze for having elaborate destination weddings overseas has led to a lot of activity in wedding travel front. Considered as a high-end tourism product, international tourism boards, airlines and hotels are proactively wooing this segment and laying out the red carpet to get a share of the pie.  From locations that span across nearby Thailand and Sri Lanka to the French Riviera and Morocco, Indian weddings are literally going places, and how.

Interestingly, destination weddings organized overseas is not just a trend of displaying opulence and reaffirmation of status, but as many industry experts argue, actually a value for money proposition– as the guest lists gets smaller and more exclusive, the cost of organizing a wedding at a five-star hotel in Thailand or Malaysia might actually prove to be more cost-effective than holding it in India.

The Philippines is yet another recently discovered destination that has emerged on the wedding map for Indians – the long haul notwithstanding.  Shilpa Sethi, general manager, Philippine Tourism, acknowledges that destinations in Philippines are being considered for weddings, especially Cebu, which was host to two Indian weddings in 2010. Philippine Airlines has announced the launch of direct flights from March 2011.  This will be an added advantage for tapping the wedding segment as the wedding travelers prefer to fly by a direct flight. We are working on the approach on how to tap this market,” says Sethi.  The Philippine Tourism has also been promoting Boracay and Cebu as the ideal honeymooners destinations.

Wedding tourism is one of the major focuses of Thunderbird Resorts that has two properties in Philippines – in the highland oasis of Binangonan, Rizal and the peninsula of Poro Point in San Fernando, La Union.  According to Fabio Moretti, country manager, Thunderbird Resorts Philippines, Indians going to the Philippines for their weddings will feel ‘at home’ and yet experience a different and unique type of celebration. “The growing local wedding industry can provide couples with wide-ranged services and products fit for their preferences. We have creatively and meticulously prepared great wedding packages that would tailor-fit to the needs and wishes of couples. Those who have celebrated their weddings at the resort have given us commendations for the personalized service from our team,” adds Moretti. [FULL ARTICLE]

An article in Philippine Star noted that destination weddings have become very popular for the Indian community in the country as their relatives from all over the world fly into the host country to bond with loved ones and enjoy the wedding as well as the tourist attractions.  It is also a venue for youngsters to meet, party and discover that special someone and maybe fall in love. As the Fil-Indian community grows, in spite of being very modern and cosmopolitan, many of the youth retain their “desi” spirit and opt for a traditional wedding.  [source]

Daniel Matsunaga almost proposed to Heart Evangelista at his sister’s wedding

That’s how the banner news from PEP.ph read.  Daniel Matsunaga is a Brazilian-Japanese model-actor who co-starred with Heart in the primetime soap, “Langit sa Piling Mo” in GMA7.

Heart & Daniel at Bellarocca (‘paparazzi’ shot courtesy of MangoRed)

Here’s an excerpt of the said PEP article with Daniel talking about his thoughts and feelings during the wedding of his sister Vanessa (also a model like him) to Jun Sunga held at the Bellarocca Island Resort in Marinduque.

HIS SISTER’S WEDDING

I never cry at weddings and it was the first time that I felt like crying! It’s true because the whole place was perfect and it was just a simple wedding but very elegant. It’s like something from a movie.

When it was my turn to read something during the wedding, I couldn’t help but cry. But I was wearing my sunglasses, so nobody was aware that I had tears in my eyes.  What made me so emotional is that you could feel the emotions of everybody. Even Heart was crying when I looked at her. It was so beautiful that I wanted a wedding like that too.

NOT YET THE TIME

It was like the perfect moment to ask your girl to marry you, right?  But it wasn’t the right time for it yet.  I don’t have the ring yet. I will have to save up for it first before I show it to Heart.

Things like that should be planned carefully. You just don’t jump in because you feel like it.  You get caught up in the moment but you get back to reality.

When I told Heart about it, she laughed and said that there are other perfect moments for that.

We don’t need to rush on things. We are enjoying one another’s company and that is what’s important. [source]

In a separate interview which was posted in journal.com.ph, Daniel said: “It’s so beautiful I told the manager of the place that Heart and I would be the next to wed there as I want what my sister had.”

So exactly how idyllic has the wedding really been for the bride’s brother to get caught in the moment and  be practically transfixed to instantly contemplate a marriage proposal?

Maybe this shot from MangoRed could help.

an enGAYgement session

couple-navinnavin1.jpg

Although same sex marriage is not legal and binding here in the Philippines, it is allowed and recognized in some parts of the world, like in the case of California, USA.

Filipino wedding photographer Newin Uy recently had an engagement session in the States (prenup pictorial as it is popularly known here) with a gay Asian American couple.

When asked by a fellow photographer how it felt taking on such a project, Nel said it felt exactly like shooting a heterosexual couple.  He added, “as long as they are in love, parang you wont think of a difference naman.”  He couldn’t have put it any simpler.

P-Noy prefers legal separation to divorce

p-noy_vegas.jpg

(via PhilStar.com) In his first categorical statement regarding marital relationships, President Aquino – a 50-year-old bachelor – declared yesterday that he favors legal separation over divorce, which he said is a “no-no.”

“My own personal position at this point is that a study will have to be made. Divorce is a no-no, but in legal separation, that will be very, very stringent… the couple must pass through the eye of a needle,” he told Palace reporters in a chance interview.

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a motor show in Pasay City, P-Noy reiterated that the legal separation process should make sure that differences are indeed irreconcilable.

“We really have to ascertain that they really have irreconcilable differences,” he said.

“But at the end of the day, they are allowed to re-marry. We have legal separation today (but they) can’t marry. Kawawa naman yung mga nagkamali (Pity those who made a mistake),” he added.

“Definitely I cannot support something like what they are doing in Las Vegas, where you get married in the morning and you’ll get divorced in the afternoon,” he said.

“But I do recognize that there are unions that were wrong that no matter what interventions are done, no matter what counseling are done, they really cannot stay together,” Mr. Aquino said.

The President refused to make any comment, however, with regard to the nullity of marriage his youngest sister Kris Aquino filed against her husband James Yap, when asked whether the Office of the Solicitor General would oppose this.

It is the policy of the state to oppose the sanctity of marriage, and it is the OSG – which is under the executive department – that exercises jurisdiction in such petitions. Mr. Aquino has appointed Joel Cadiz, a supporter, as solicitor general.

“I appointed the OSG and if I make an opinion, the OSG might be guided by my opinion and that will be a disservice to the person,” he justified. “Sorry but I will look into that, because what I studied the other day was divorce.”

“And it falls to my sister. Again if I say any opinion it might influence the workings of the court, the fiscal etc. I am duty bound not to comment on this,” he said.

Women’s group Gabriela has refiled in the House of Representatives its controversial bill to legalize divorce in the country.

Representatives Luzviminda Ilagan and Emerenciana de Jesus stressed legalizing divorce would give “married couples in irreparable marriages another legal remedy that they can resort to in addition to the country’s existing laws on legal separation and annulment.”

They said a divorce law could help put an end to domestic violence that is still prevalent among married Filipino couples. The Philippines is one of only two countries in the world (excluding the Vatican) that has not legalized divorce.

“For women in abusive marital relationships, the need for a divorce law is real. It is high time that we give Filipino couples, especially the women, this option,” said Ilagan and De Jesus in the bill’s explanatory note.

The measure, now renamed House Bill 1799 (An Act Introducing Divorce in the Philippines), lists down five grounds for the filing of a petition for divorce:

  1.  Petitioner has been separated de facto (in fact) from his or her spouse for at least five years at the time of the filing of the petition and reconciliation is highly improbable;
  2. Petitioner has been legally separated from his or her spouse for at least two years at the time of the filing of the petition and reconciliation is highly improbable;
  3. When the spouses suffer from irreconcilable differences that have caused the irreparable breakdown of the marriage;
  4. When one or both spouses are psychologically incapacitated to comply with the essential marital obligations;
  5. Any of the grounds for legal separation that caused the irreparable breakdown of the marriage.

Bishops see record decline in Catholic Church weddings

(via Inquirer.net) While the debate on the divorce bill rages in Congress, Catholic marriages in the country are on track for a record drop this year and the next, a Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) official said Saturday.

Fr. Melvin Castro, executive secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life, said that based on the Catholic Directory, the number of church marriages is set to drop from 177,940 in 2008-2009 to just 166,0000 this year and in 2011.

Castro said this was because Filipinos were marrying at a later age and couples were opting for civil marriages first before going for a “grand” church wedding.

“(The) trend is Filipinos are getting married at an older age unlike before when Filipinos would tie the knot when they’re still young,” said Castro in an interview over the Church’s Radio Veritas.

“Because those getting married are getting older, the number of people tying the knot in church is going down.”

He said that in the diocese of Tarlac, the number of those opting for civil marriages was “on the rise because it is free when you have it before the mayor.”  They later get married in church.

“It’s not because of the church fees but because as Filipinos they want to prepare for a church wedding. Filipinos are very particular that they have a grand church wedding so they postpone it,” Castro said.

He said the Church had also noticed a “glaring phenomenon” of more and more Filipino women marrying foreigners.

“We have a glaring phenomenon of so many interracial marriages involving Filipinas. Maybe foreigners are really falling in love with Filipinas. So it’s interracial and, more often than not, (it’s) a mixed marriage with the man having a different religion,” Castro said.

“In several instances, the groom would convert and get baptized in the Church but that is discouraged—to convert just for the sake of marriage,” he said.

Castro said Filipino women entering into interracial marriages was a “phenomenon” happening not just in the country but also in the large Filipino communities abroad.

“You will also notice this abroad where there are really many Filipinos getting married, either with a fellow Filipino or with somebody from another race,” he said.

Cebu cited ‘Best Honeymoon Destination’ at the World Trade Fair 2010 in Shanghai, China!

cebu-honeymoon.jpg

(via Manila Bulletin) Cebu’s bid to become the “Wedding Capital of Asia” got a big boost after the Chinese tourism agency described it as the “Best Honeymoon Destination” at the World Trade Fair 2010 in Shanghai, China.

“Being recognized as the best honeymoon destination says a lot about the beauty of Cebu, especially the beaches, resorts, and hotels,” said Department of Tourism (DoT) Senior Adviser Phineas Alburo in an interview Saturday.

Alburo raised optimism that the award will result in more honeymooners going to Cebu, especially foreign tourists who are on the lookout for an affordable wedding and honeymoon destination on a tropical island.

“Cebu has emerged from just being a beach destination. Being proclaimed as a honeymoon destination is a big step to luring more foreigners here. When these couples chose to wed here, they would surely bring their families,” said Mila Espina, who chairs the tourism advocacies of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In a statement to Manila Bulletin, the DoT said that Cebu was named as the “Best Honeymoon Destination” at the World Trade Fair 2010 in Shanghai, China, this week, which gathered about 500 trade buyers from tourism association, outbound travel agencies, and tour operators.

The win was declared after a public vote and a strict evaluation process undertaken by professional jurors from the Shanghai Tourism Municipal Administration, VNU Exhibitions Asia, and Shanghai International Conference Management Organization.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano welcomed the award as a well-deserved tribute to the country’s very own “Queen City of the South”.

“As the second most visited destination in the country, next to Metro Manila, Cebu continues to draw more people to add to the 435, 987 tourists whom it posted in this year’s first quarter. We are not surprised that more and more travelers, especially couples, are finding its pristine white beaches, romantic resorts, and breathtaking views, coupled with the innate warmth and friendliness of our locals, a perfect treat for their honeymoon,” he said.

At present, Cebu enjoys a steady influx of travelers, with top markets including Korea (28 percent), Japan (23 percent), USA (10 percent), and China (6 percent).

Apart from Cebu’s attractive sites and diverse excursion activities, Durano also cited the country’s competitive tour pricing and the continuous development of the transportation sector as influential drivers of tourism growth in the island-province.

Arlene Alipio, head of DoT Team China, shared that charter flights from Shanghai to Cebu and Boracay have helped spur inbound travel growth to Cebu.

Undersecretary for Tourism Planning and Promotions Eduardo Jarque Jr. expressed enthusiasm and pride over the recent award bagged by the country, calling it “an affirmation of the country’s world-class tourist spots and its unfailing efforts to reach out to new markets”.

Shanghai-based Philippine Tourism Attaché to China Gerry Panga, said, “The Philippines has increasingly become a choice destination among its Asian neighbors, as well as the world, owing to the relentless programs and campaigns that allow travelers to discover and fully appreciate our islands.”

While total China outbound travel grew only by 3 to 4 percent in 2009, outbound travel from Eastern China to the Philippines has been growing at an average rate of 40 percent in terms of visa issuance since the opening of the new Philippine Tourism Office in 2007, the DoT said.

Romantic Philippines: highlighting the country’s pristine beaches as premier wedding destinations!

celeb_tony-fish.jpg(via philstar.com) MANILA, Philippines – Asia’s popular celebrity singer, Fish Leong, and businessman Tony Chao recently tied the knot in Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.

A result of the aggressive and extensive promotional efforts by the Department of Tourism (DOT), highlighting country’s pristine beaches as premier wedding destinations, DOT’s Romantic Philippines campaign has lured couples to put the country in their wedding wish lists.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano says, “We continue to highlight the country’s position as a desired location for weddings, and this helps boost our specialized segments, also benefiting local businesses, generating income from a constantly flourishing market.”

He adds, “People will not hesitate to invest their resources in the one of the most important events of their lives, also expecting nothing less but the most romantic, most memorable, top-notch location.  The Philippines offers that and more.”

Some 50 Taiwanese tourists including the family and relatives of Fish and Tony flew all the way from Canada and Taipei to Boracay to witness the wedding rites in Discovery Shores. The event was also attended by some Taiwanese media from leading newspapers in Taiwan including the Singapore-based Vogue Magazine.

Fish Leong, also known as Leong Chui Pen, is a sought-after music artist in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, with all her albums landing the bestseller list in the East Asia region.

“For about a year Tony and I have been traveling from one country to another and have seen a lot of amazing places, breathtaking views and serene beaches, met a lot of people and covered a lot of destination weddings, but it is the beach that is the closest to our hearts,” she said.

She shared when asked about their choice for a wedding destination, “We didn’t have a hard time choosing. Both of us agreed, ‘Where else but in the beautiful island of Boracay, Philippines’? It is indeed the most perfect place to tie the knot. There is something about the island that makes everyone feel at home.”

The solemn wedding rites facing the beautiful sunset of Boracay was proceeded by an intimate reception at a wedding tent in front of Discovery Shores, especially customized for the affair.

Tourism Undersecretary Eduardo Jarque Jr., who heads DOT Planning and Promotions, said, “Our facilities, venues, event planners and organizers, are all ready to welcome those who will celebrate this momentous occasion. We aim to further tap this niche market through offering more programs and packages through our partners.”

World-class entertainment for the guests at the reception was given by Iloilo’s pride, the Gerry Gray Jazz Band, which played the couple’s favorite romantic songs. The simple yet elegant wedding rite has attracted several onlookers and foreign tourists to the resorts to feel the romantic ambience in the beach front.

According to Amanda Tirol, an expert in planning beach destination weddings, the average number (of beach weddings) in Boracay is 200 per year, which includes small to big weddings. Majority of the foreign clients come from Australia, the US, Singapore and Hong Kong and also quite a number from Europe.

She said, “The best time for a beach wedding in Boracay is from January up to the middle of May because of the cool northeast wind or the so-called amihan season,” characterized by moderate temperatures with little or no rainfall and a prevailing wind from the east.

Boracay has become a popular beach wedding destination for both local and foreign couples because of its accessibility and value-for-money packages. Direct flights from Taipei to Kalibo by Philippine Airlines and China Airlines continue to boost tourist activity in the island, as well as Manila-Caticlan flights via SEAIR, Asian Spirit and Cebu Pacific.

Numerous activity choices in Boracay like water sports, snorkeling, shopping, spa and wellness retreats, and beach parties, also include the list of top draw cards to the area.
