WaW Bridal Fashion: Silhouettes by Boy Kastner

Wedding gown pegs usually give me an insight of the bride’s personality and it is always a joy for me as a designer to take part in the co-creation process.

Abstract ideas such as magazine cut-outs are transformed into sketches which then transform into a gown that will be worn on the most important day on a woman’s life. Oftentimes, the process goes smoothly. The bride-to-be knows what she wants and I use her idea as a springboard for a wedding gown creation.

At times though, brides-to-be can get really fixated on how they want their gown to look like without taking into consideration if the cut will look good on them. During these times, I feel the need to step in and direct my clients towards silhouettes that are more flattering.

Mind you, I am an advocate for celebrating the female form whatever it may be but as a general rule, I also subscribe to the following when it comes to silhouettes:

I think 2016 is the year that this style can rest for a while to give way to sleeker styles such as the serpentine.

In addition to body shape, it is also important to factor in your budget (as I often jest, balloon skirts go with balloon rates) and the activities you will be doing for the day.

Remember that you and your wedding gown will be going through a whole gamut of activities from the actual wedding rites to pictorials to reception to dancing the night away.

I have seen many brides take on less-than pleasant dispositions because they were exhausted at having to go through the entire day minding their skirts and making sure the bead work won’t get damaged.

Be as dazzling as a Disney princess on your wedding day but make sure that you pick a dress that can keep up with your energy and temper.
