Valentine’s Day 2011: photos of mass weddings from around the Philippines!

February 14 is getting to be a popular date for mass weddings held throughout the country.  Here we compile various photographs we found throughout the ‘net of hundreds of Filipino couples choosing to say ‘I do’ on Valentine’s Day. 🙂

A marriage proposal worthy of a headline!

couple-nicjack.jpg(via Phil. STAR) For many a Romeo out there, finally popping the big question to his one true love is accompanied by many tense and nerve-wracking moments. Often, the challenge is how to propose in style, in a way that will sweep his ladylove off her feet and make her fall in love with him all over again.

This is what Dominic “Nic” Francisco, 27, had in mind when he planned his big proposal to girlfriend Jacquelyn “Jack” Reyes. This time, he didn’t plan a lavish dinner, or a walkway lined with red rose petals; he actually had it “published” on his girlfriend’s favorite newspaper, which happens to be The Philippine STAR.

It was like something straight out of a movie, a unique request that even The Philippine STAR couldn’t say no to.

Nic, who works as a software developer for Smart Communications, initially thought of doing the proposal in a more traditional fashion. But he thought of a better idea that would surely catch Jack’s attention. “Jack really loves reading, especially The STAR. She spends half the day during weekends reading all the sections of the paper,” he said.

He sent an e-mail to The STAR inquiring about a personalized front page where the question, “Will you marry me?” would be the day’s “headline.” The STAR was more than happy to assist Nic with his request, where the customized front page came complete with an article of Nic recalling the early stages of their relationship and how much they have grown together.

Big day

Nic chose to spring the surprise on Jack’s 27th birthday, giving her the customary flowers and her favorite newspaper neatly tucked under. Clueless, Jack didn’t realize that the day’s edition was a personalized copy, which The STAR helped design for Nic to mount his unique proposal.

But when the surprise began to unfold as she was poring over the special issue, Jack could not contain tears of joy. “It was the most wonderful birthday gift I’ve ever received in my entire life,” she said.

“I saw the roses, and the personalized shirt that said, ‘Will you marry me, Jack?’, but nothing could ever beat seeing the headline printed on my suking newspaper, The Philippine STAR. For an ultra-shy guy like Nic, I know it was an herculean task for him to pull off that stunt,” she reminisces.

Thus, as the self-effacing Nic went down on his knees to ask for her hand, Jack could only give him a resounding “yes!”

Jack, describing her beau as a certified torpe, recalls that it took Nic a couple of dates, countless text messages, and an awkward realization to finally come up to her and admit that he’s in love with her. “That’s why when he finally told me how he did it, he all the more captured my heart. Everyone was in awe of Nic’s idea,” Jack said.

Bright future ahead

The couple is currently in the frenzy of preparations for their wedding, which has been set on Oct. 7, their 55th month together.

“Preparing for our wedding is both stressful and exciting,” shares Nic. “We’ve been going to a lot of bridal fairs to look at the things we need as well as get discounts and freebies from suppliers. Despite the hassle, we still smile a lot because we’re doing this for the two of us. After all, the most important thing is our union.”

“For me, the strength of a relationship is not simply measured by the number of years that you’ve been together. It’s every single day that you share with each other. We’ve gone through a lot but what’s important is that we learned from all these experiences may it be good or bad and now I’m ready to be with the girl that I want to spend the rest of my life with.”

“Pinoy Henyo” Proposal

“Pinoy Henyo is a word-guessing game segment popularized by the noontime show,  Eat Bulaga!  It’s played  pretty much like the “Taboo”  boardgame except that the one giving hints is only allowed to answer “Yes/Oo” or “No/Hindi” to the guesser’s questions related to the word stuck on his/her forehead.

In a get-together with friends last Christmas, Nico played “Pinoy Henyo” with his girlfriend, Rea.  Here’s a snapshot while their friends are so kilig as the wedding proposal unfolds.

Such a sneaky way to have the girl “pop the question”, while the guy gets to say “YES!” in return.  hehe

Oyo + Tin wedding onsite video

Up until today, nothing much has been seen, by way of official photo or video releases, of the January 12 wedding of celebrity couple, Oyo Sotto + Kristine Hermosa.  Even links to our post about the newlyweds’ prenup pictures and OBB (A Prelude to Oyo Sotto & Kristine Hermosa’s Wedding) were set to private upon the request of the couple.  Thankfully, those links are finally up and active again for those who weren’t able to view them the first time. 🙂

Thankfully, Oyo + Tin just green-lighted the release of their onsite video for public viewing. In his blog, Bong Sare of Threelogy Video said the groom specifically requested for Howie Day’s “Collide” as music for the video (the exact same song Tin used for the bridal march). For her part, the bride requested soundbites not be included in the same-day edit.

Cheers to the newlyweds!

A Short Film for a Prenup Video

damaposter.jpg

Instead of having friends and family being interviewed to tell their love story for an AVP to be shown during their wedding reception, John Chu + Ailyn Go had a different approach.  They wanted to entertain their guests with a short film, and judging from the output, I’m certain they pulled it off!

Think Korean novela redubbed for Filipino audiences.  It’s actually a clever idea since the “actors” never had to memorize their lines to deliver a good performance.  I was fortunate to be in the Threelogy office the night they were scheduled to dub the scenes.  Since I was there anyway, I was made to do the voice of the antagonist’s sidekick.  Some of the lines (like the bit about Michael Jackson) were thought of by Bong and CJ on-the-spot. We were in laughing the whole time we were recording. 😀

Ready your popcorn!

Celebrity mom Roxanne Guinoo’s altar date with her ginoo

In September 2010, actress Roxanne Guinoo gave birth to a healthy baby daughter. Yesterday, January 23, she got married to Elton Yap, the father of her child.  It was reported that Roxanne could have married last year if it were not for the wedding of Elton’s sister. According to Filipino superstitions, it is bad luck for siblings to marry on the same year (sukob).

Below is the picture posted by Lito Sy, the couple’s official wedding photographer, in his FB wall.

A Prelude to Oyo Sotto & Kristine Hermosa’s Wedding

Prior to their wedding, Oyo & Kristine had consistently been mum during interviews whenever asked by the media to give details about their wedding.  It’s clear that the couple would like to keep their wedding as private as possible.

Well, it’s been two days since their January 12 lakeside wedding (also the groom’s birthday) at Club Balai Isabel in Talisay, Batangas, but nothing much has been seen aside from some blurry pictures tweeted by their celebrity friends.  The primetime newscast in their respective home studios didn’t have any wedding picture to accompany their news item about the event.  Even the couple’s prenup pictures taken in Subic late last year were only released to the public the day after the wedding.  The couple’s on-the-day coordinator, Jody Liwanag of EventsExperts, has also been very quiet, revealing via FB stat that she indeed handled the wedding only after the fact.

We know a lot of people are curious to see the photographs and onsite video of this celebrity wedding, but we may all have to wait a little longer until the newlyweds give the greenlight to their suppliers.

In the meantime, see more of Oyo Boy + Tin-tin’s prenup pictures in Nelwin Uy’s blog.

We’re also sharing here the couple’s prenup video (it served as an OBB [opening billboard] for the couple’s onsite video) done by Threelogy.

So who else’s wedding made it in 2010’s best list? Aside from celebrity weddings, there’s a noticeable increase of nuptials held outside the Philippines in last year’s roaster. It’s a solid proof that — due to talent and value-for-money (and of course, the internet!) — the Filipino wedding supplier is one of the country’s growing export. Cheers to that! More importantly, completing our annual list are the beautiful weddings of ordinary couples (W@Wies or not) which made an extra-ordinary impact to their respective wedding supplier.

Without much ado, here’s the list of 2010’s Best Weddings!

Wedding hitches nearly mar Maggie Wilson and Victor Consunji nuptials

After their much talked about prenup video has gone viral and the hullabaloo in our comments section debating if the clip is inappropriate (some even cried “porn!”) or not, the wedding of Victor & Maggie in Misibis Bay in Albay, Bicol last December 18, 2010 proceeded as planned inspite the hitches.

The groom couldn’t have described it any better…

“It spanned three days, and through a unique twist of divine faith, we got married twice in the same day. And with overflowing love and friendship and support, even the heavens cried, with torrential abundance. But it was perfect. It was unforgettable. It meant everything. It is the happiest days of our lives.” -Victor

The bride narrated a detailed account of what transpired on their big day in the article below which originally appeared in The Manila Bulletin.  Read on…

Controversial couple Maggie Wilson and Victor Consunji’s December 18 wedding was nearly marred by hitches.  A beach wedding ceremony held at Misibis Bay Raintree Resort in Albay, it was attended by about 200 guests. As the couple was about to exchange I do’s, they were told that the beach wedding was not possible unless they wed in a church first as ordered by the Catholic Church.  Despite their surprise, the couple remained unfazed.

Fortunately, there was a church nearby the wedding venue so Maggie and Victor got wed there.  “Gusto nu’ng priest ikasal muna kami sa church. Una muna ‘yung church bago ‘yung beach wedding. ‘Yun ‘yung parang bilin ng church kasi nga Catholic wedding siya. Usually, hindi pumapayag ang Catholic church na magpakasal sa beach. Gusto daw talaga nila sa loob mismo ng church,” Maggie shared on “Showbiz Central” on Dec. 26.

“Eh, hindi namin alam. Sinabi lang sa amin that day, nu’ng araw mismo ng kasal, noong araw na ‘yon. Sinabi sa amin na gusto nila sa church muna. So ganoon ang nangyari, kaya nagkaroon muna kami ng ceremony sa church with our family and closest firends. Konti lang kami, siguro 15 lang kami nandoon sa church,” the beauty queen-turned actress added.

“And then right after, nagbihis lang ako, nag-wedding dress and kinasal na naman ako sa beach,” Maggie recalled.

They were surprised that the officiating priest even knew of their controversial pre-nup video.  “Ang pinaka-funny pa ‘yung priest na nagkasal sa amin, doon sa homily niya nabanggit niya ‘yung pre-nup video namin. So parang ginawa talaga niya ‘yung homework niya.”

The rain on Maggie’s parade did not stop there. Literally, the beach wedding was greeted by rains — a “torrential downpour” as Maggie described it. “Noong nag-start kami parang wala munang ulan. And then nag-start mag-rain noong mag-vows na kami. In fact noong nag-start na kaming mag-wedding vow biglang umulan nang sobrang lakas. Umulan siya and then sabi ng pari, ‘Now you may kiss the bride.'”

Although drenched by the rain, the guests remained seated all throughout the ceremony.“At ang pinakamaganda doon sa nangyari is lahat ng guests nag-stay. Walang umalis. Talagang lahat kami nabasa… as in basa ‘yung hair, basa lahat.”

The experience, Maggie recalls, “Para talaga siyang movie.  It couldn’t have been written better. Parang it was such a beautiful wedding that even the heaven cried for us. Parang gano’n. That’s how I feel it. It is the happiest day of our lives. Siyempre gusto namin memorable and, of course, bongga!”

Boxing champ Nonito Donaire believes his 11-11-11 church wedding is lucky!

couple-nonitorachel.jpg(via Manila Bulletin) Fresh from his triumphant fight versus Wladimir Sidorenko of Ukraine, Nonito Donaire announced that he and wife Rachel will marry for a second time on a date he considers “lucky.”

Nonito declared at a recent press conference that his church wedding with Rachel is set for November 11, 2011. As 11 is his lucky number, the country’s “Filipino Flash” deems re-marrying Rachel on said date guarantees that “all [his] wishes will come true.”

The boxing champ first tied the knot with Rachel Marcial, a Filipino-American model and taekwondo champion, on Aug. 8, 2008 at the
Carmel River Beach in California.

Having little Rachels and Nonitos is also part of the couple’s plans, but not for now, Nonito said.

“I think the third Nonito is somewhere there. But for now focused po kami in ensuring our future and [make sure] our finances are stable and hindi kami magwo-worry in the future,” he said in a live interview on “Umagang Kay Ganda” Dec. 14.

He may be a fighter inside the ring, but outside of it, Nonito is a lover to Rachel, whom he considers his best friend.

“Wala kaming tinatago sa isa’t-isa… best friends kami. In love kami sa isa’t-isa pero to be best friends is another story,” he said.

Rachel added that the key to their happy marriage is trust.

“That’s just the basic foundation, and the belief that God put us together for a reason,” she said.

Nonito, together with Rachel, arrived in the country from San Francisco at 3 a.m. Tuesday after his bout against Wladimir Sidorenko
last Dec. 4 in Anaheim, California. Nonito knocked out Wladimir in the fourth round, earning him his fourth knockout victory and 24th straight win.

The newly declared WBA bantamweight champ is honored that boxing analysts see him as “the next Manny Pacquiao.”

“Manny Pacquiao is the best, if not, one of the best in history. One of the greatest. So to be said that you’re the next na magiging Manny
Pacquiao, it’s a blessing and it’s such an honor,” said Nonito.

“UKG” host Alex Santos noted that like Manny, Nonito is also left-handed, southpaw boxer. Both fighters are also known for their
singing skills. Manny has two albums under his belt, while Nonito was one of the finalists on GMA-7’s “Celebrity Duets.”

Although he feels honored by the praise, Nonito is pressured by it, too.

“I try not to think about it. Ang [iniisip] ko lang is kailangan kong mag-train nang husto at kailangang panalo every time,” he said.

Training resumes as early as the holiday season for Nonito, who will next battle it out with Mexican boxer and WBC bantamweight king Fernando Montiel on Feb. 19, 2011.

Coffee-Mate’s “ehem” girl got married!

She got me at “ehem”.

Her name is Anielle Santos. Well, as it turns out, I’m not the only one who had an instant crush on her in the Coffee-Mate TVC.  This particular comment in YouTube cracked me up!

LOL!  Well, too bad jaodeballs.  Anielle is married now.  Not to the dude in the commercial, but to Rapha Banson. Here’s proof…

Willie Wilson & Maria del Rosario: a hardcourt love story

couple_williemaria.jpg

William “The Scrapper” Wilson is a professional cager of the PBA playing for Barangay Ginebra Kings. Maria is former Miss PBA, host, and model.

They first met while Willie was watching the opening ceremony of the NCAA games at the stands in his best friend. Maria — then the muse of St. Benilde Blazers — caught his eye. Thus, through his best friend, he found a way to meet her.  They started being friends for a couple of years while running into each other at basketball games since Maria was a court-side reporter at the time.

At that time, it was difficult for Maria to be in a relationship her work entails flying in-an-out the country. But William persisted. He waited and pursued his feelings until one day they fell in love just at the right time.

As they say, waiting matters not for people who are meant to be with each other. Love transcends time and distance.

The groom-to-be puts it in not so many words: “You will have the feeling in your heart knowing she is the one. It’s fate.”

Grow Old With You…

Saw this posted by photographer Robert Garcia in his FB wall and felt the urge to share it here.  A ‘then-and-now’ split layout with the couple’s portrait as  young newlyweds side-by-side with a recent shot during their golden wedding anniversary celebration.  Indeed, 50 years of being together is a reason to celebrate!

Pictures like this tugs the heart and strengthens one’s resolve to believe in happy-ever-afters. Cheers! 🙂
