Bridal finery shines despite coup bid in Manila

MANILA (Reuters) - Nothing, not even an attempted coup, was going to stop this wedding. A Filipino couple who were due to hold their wedding reception at a luxury Manila hotel moved the venue to another across the road after soldiers calling for the overthrow of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took over the building. The bride, 30-year-old Maria-Stella Magtayo, had dressed in her room at the Manila Peninsula Hotel and entered the lobby in an off-the-shoulder white gown, bouquet in hand and a friend holding the train. "I'm going through with this. Rock n' Roll!" she said, as rebel soldiers with automatic rifles and scores of journalists paced around the lobby. Her groom, Rian Montano, 31, was still in his shorts and T-shirt because he had not started to get ready. He was wearing hotel slippers. "We were having breakfast when these guys broke in. I knew at once it was something bad," he said. (READ MORE...)

What ever happened in today's Manila Pen wedding?

Today's startling takeover of Penisula Manila in the Makati Standoff has greatly affected regular business in the hotel including a wedding reception scheduled tonight. Wedding photographer, Dino Lara, was there to cover wedding and blogged about the photojournalistic images he captured today. Read his account.

Who's in your 25 hottest videographers list?

If you're a wedding videographer, now may be the perfect time to recognize fellow videographers whom you look up to. EventDV is now accepting votes for the 2007's 25 Most Influential Videographers in the World. For last year, Jason Magbanua was in it; the first time a Filipino made it to the prestigious list. This year, there are 25 blank slots and it would be great to again see a Pinoy name (or even more!) make it to that list again. The thing is, only event videographers may vote for their fellow videographers. This is a call to all pinoyvideomakers to put Pinoys back in that list and prove to the rest of the world that our local videographers area cut above the rest! You may register and vote thru this page. Mabuhay ang Pinoy videographers!

The video contains the Clique party photos running on steroids. The pics from Fotoloco and FabFoto booths are likewise ready for viewing. For the free-nup pics, Dino posted some more. There are also new uploads courtesy of Marvin Natores, The Crew Photography (aka Sexy Times Crew in Manila's party circuit), Van Goth Photography, and some behind the scenes from Manila Trends. Check them out!

2008 Desktop Gallery uploaded!

Have you noticed the new set on pictures randomizing in main frame of our front page? Each of these images are part of those featured in the 2008 W@W Desktop Gallery. They will remain in exclusive rotation until the end of January 2008. For those who wish to avail of the calendar, very limited copies will soon be available at Wedding Library (SM North Edsa & Megamall) and at the Filipinas Heritage Library in Makati. Our friends from Threelogy did this fantastic AVP for the calendar's launching (the feel is actually like an opening for a superhero movie) presented during the calendar's launching at the W@W Christmas Party last Friday. Watch the video here.

Bloghop galore!

(photo by Dino Lara) We've been blog-hopping like crazy visiting sites of photographers to see if some of the pictures taken during the W@W Christmas Party are already posted. The following photographers uploaded some pics so far: Dino Lara, The Fol Guys, Leah Taas, Metro Photo, Richie Macapinlac and the funny snaps from The Clique Booth. This is just a partial list. We might have even missed a site or two. We'll blog about the other sites as the pictures become available. In the meantime, head on to the above metioned sites to see the pictures. W@Wies, please do comment in their blogs to show your appreciation. Afterall, no matter how fun it was for them, it's still a tiring and payless effort on their part.

W@W Party Place: Fernwood or Fernbrook?

It sounds alike but the former is in QC and the other one is a new venue in Alabang. In fact, they are busy putting finishing touches to the Byzantine hall (only one of the nine venues) in Fernbrook Gardens since last week to get the place ready for us. But naturally, holding the party there would put a stop to a day's work in other parts of this massive venue. As time is crucial for them to finish the entire place for other fuctions booked there, we felt holding the party there would just delay other improvements they need to do to totally ready the place. Thus, we have decided to move the W@W Christmas Party in Fernwood Gardens in QC. Only the venue has changed but everything else goes on as planned. So if you're invited to come to the party, please do note of this change. SEE YOU THERE!

Pout, Pose & Party!

(photo by Dino Lara) Seventy seven W@Wie couples will troop to Fernbrook Garden in Alabang Fernwood Gardens in QC on Friday afternoon though the W@W Christmas Party doesn't start until the 6:30 in the evening. They're not over eager, they're simply lucky to have a free Pre-Nup pictorial session, not just with one photographer, nor two, nor three, but several photographers who volunteered. Of course, what's a pre-nup without make-up? Thus, we gathered 12 make-up artists to the venue to prep-up the ladies. For sure this will be a VERY TIRING experience to all these suppliers, we just hope it will be fun and worthwhile as well. See the complete list of participating photographers and makeup-artists who signed-up for this undertaking.

Last Auction Heroes!

Though we've already announced the W@W Christmas Auction last month, additional suppliers pledged their products and services to W@Wies which called for a Part II. For this second round, we are auctioning off a "Wedding Film" by Jason Magbanua worth P70,000 (read details here); while Imacron's 3D Photo Montage worth P50,000 is still up for grabs. For his part, Cecilo Abad is throwing his bridal gown package worth P50,000 to the lucky bidder. And Fol Rana, Jr. is sponsoring a pre-nup shoot to the rustic and far-away island of Batanes (read details here). An updated list of this year's auction sponsors are listed here. Salamat po ulit!

Top 10 AVP and pictorial

For the past four W@Wie Awards, the AV presentaions formally introducing the winning suppliers served as highlights during the W@W Christmas Party as these videos were painstakingly done by noted videographers in the industry (their works in the past awards are all shown here).

For this year, we are glad that no less than Dominic of Imacron (he set the benchmark in the 90's and we've got him to thank why Pinoy wedding videos look the way they do now) agreed to take on the job. We don't clearly know what Dom's cooking up for this one since instead of a video shoot, what the Top 10 nominees had were mere voice recordings.

For the pictorial, we requested one of the nominees (Jayson Arquiza -- the freshest name among this year's batch) to bring his camera and take pictures of them. He brought each supplier in front of the Imacron Bldg. down the traffic and smoggy street of Kamias despite the gloomy sky as backdrop. Amazingly, with this guy's talent, that dark and unglamorous setting turned up some awesome images! View the slideshow below.

Introducing: The Wedding Trumpeteer

Once in a while, we find something unique and interesting posted in our Classified Ads section, then blog about it here. Here's one: The Wedding Trumpeteer! This instrumentalist would be ideal for brides who want a brass fanfare before walking down the aisle and feel like royalty, or an instrumental prelude to announce the arrival of the newlyweds at the reception. Guests would definitely turn their heads to see who's at the door. We inquired and told us the rate is P2,500 and the trumpeteer would stay from wedding until the start of the reception. That's an affordable way to feel like king & queen! Those interested may contact Mark or Jlo at 0917.449.2667 or email bonsky_jen@yahoo.com.
