Yes, the guy in photo is our winner, not of the SOTY (Supplier of the Year) but T2J (Trip to Jerusalem)! The pic is from Dino Lara -- a consistent W@Wie Awards Top 10 awardee from 2003 to 2005 -- who sent us a link of a photo slideshow of images his team took at the W@W Christmas Party. For those who missed the fun, you can almost feel like you were there by watching, especially with the addition of the Eraserheads Christmas carols in the background. Watch the AVP here!

25 NOVEMBER 2006 A photographer 'took home' THE W@Wie!
Which W@Wie? The ones cast in metal and painted gold, that's what! Congratulations to Paul Vincent Photography for being named The 2006 Supplier of the Year. Who's with Paul in the magic circle of five? Check out their names here.
For those who missed the party, here are the three-part AVPs painstakingly conceptualize, shot and edited by Buddy Gancenia | Reality Video in honor of 2006's batch of Top 10, Top 5 and Supplier of the Year! Note that he got actual footages of these 11 suppliers at work. Also notice the 'Survivor' treatment of the Top 5 video with this year's host -- Fernwood Gardens -- providing the necessary backdrop.
Again, our BIG Congratulations to this year's winners! BLOW OUT! BLOW OUT! =)
(photo by Edwin Tuyay for AsiaWeek | article from Sun Star) If you want to see politicians, head to a church on weekends. Chances are, you'll see them standing in as godparents to a child or as wedding sponsors to a couple.
Having politicians as godparents has long been a part of our culture. Some see it as a way of building connections to powerful people, or as a way of showing off one's clout in the community. Often, too, it strengthens bonds between friends.
But by any standard, to be a wedding sponsor or godfather once a week is a bit too taxing, physically and financially.
In tonight's Palaban, Malou Mangahas explores the politics behind the selection of ninongs and ninangs, the tag price it usually entails, and who really foots the bill.
Palaban airs every Wednesday night, right after Saksi, on GMA-7.

21 NOVEMBER 2006 Going... going...almost done!
The 2006 W@Wie Christmas Auction is currently ongoing with some items already won! We do this annually in conjunction with W@W Christmas Party to raise funds for the event and to help our beneficiaries like
God's Work in Progress -- a group helping the streetchildren in Pasig.
Acution items from two past winners of the The W@Wie Awards' Supplier fo the Year (SOTY) proved to be really HOT! The Highlights Coverage (market value: P50,000) by Jason Magbanua(SOTY '04) was bidded out just 12 hours after the auction started; while the wedding gown package (market value: P5o,ooo) by Veluz(SOTY '05) was bought at its reserve price the following day.
The response has truly been overwhelming that we had to do a Part 2. Among those offered are three bridal gowns from Michi Calica with a combined market value of P290,000! Only the W@Wies have the EXCLUSIVE privilege to have these items at a fraction of their actual market value. Our auction ends later today. Here is a list of all the items that we acutioned this year.
And there are more prizes up for grabs during our W@W Christmas Party this Friday.
Thanks to all the generous suppliers for tirelessly supporting W@W in this annual endeavor. Salamat pong muli! =)

18 NOVEMBER 2006 Images of Isla Naburot!
If you were to ask us, Isla Naburot will be our top pick for a local honeymoon destination. There simply aren't enough words to describe our experience when we were there. For those who have read our article about the Isla and wish to see more, the images we took of the place are now posted in John's other blog. Enjoy!
We have received reports that a poser is using the names of some overseas brides (mostly blogging W@Wies) to text their their chosen wedding suppliers to ask for a simple "favor." The scam artist will say that "she" is using a roaming number and will ask the supplier to please load up her local mobile number because it's out of balance. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Apparently, the scammer matches the name of the suppliers and the brides from info posted in thier wedblogs. The poser then calls the supplier's listed mobile number and makes his/her move. It's really just a small time con artist (to the tune of maybe, P500 free cellphone load) but better be forewarned of this person's pathetic scam. If this poser happen to contact you, please do report the incident to us with the mobile number used. Don't fall prey.

13 NOVEMBER 2006 Monique Lhuillier threads her roots!
Monique Lhuillier -- designer for Hollywood A-listers such as Britney Spears, Eva Longoria, Angelina Jolie, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sharon Stone, Teri Hatcher, Reese and Jessica Alba -- is in town for her fashion show & benefit dinner held last night at Shangri-La Makati’s Rizal Ballroom. Monique showcased 48 ready-to-wear dresses and 34 bridal gowns. In addition, the show also featured a reprise of her best-loved designs. When asked how she channels her work to ordinary brides, she said:
"I feel that for the regular woman her wedding day is her Oscar or her red-carpet moment. She wants it to be perfect and all those emotions go in there. She just wants it to be so perfect so I treat that with as much respect as I would if I were dressing a celebrity going down the red carpet. That’s what I’m saying. People come to me for their special moments because they know I’m there to make them look their best."
Fol Rana, Jr. has just announce his ArtBag which is the handy and practical case for his ArtBook wedding albums. The new case is postman bag-type with a personalized flap that bears the same design as the album cover. How cool is that? Fol said that soon-to-weds who will be availing of his services from now until end of 2006 will get the ArtBag for FREE! Read more about it here.
Mention the word ‘pre-nups’ among marrying Filipino couples and the subject of discussion would not be touchy nor sensitive at all. It wouldn’t even involve a pesky lawyer. What’s needed is a talented photographer. A special collection of pre-nup photographs from twelve talented photographers will be the recurring theme of the 2007 W@W Desktop Gallery (volume one). This desk calendar will be launched and be given away to W@Wies and suppliers attending our annual W@W Christmas Party / W@Wie Awards to be held at the Fernwood Gardens this November 24. Know more about this project.

06 NOVEMBER 2006 Bayanihan sa Kasalang Promdi!
In last week's issue of the Manila Standard Today, Bong Austero wrote about his brother's wedding held in Leyte. Here's an excerpt:
"Having lived in Metro Manila in the last 18 years, I have somehow imbibed the conveniences of life in the big city. When I was told that the family was expecting around 500 guests for the wedding, I actually balked and wondered how our family would be able to pull it off on our own without caterers and wedding coordinators and the like. They told me repeatedly that I was being such a worrywart, that relatives would come and lend their support. And they did. In droves.
I was amazed at how people began converging at our house the day before the wedding. The truly astonishing thing was that everyone seemed to know what role to perform. It was as if the whole thing was a military operation that operated with utmost precision. By midnight, there were at least 30 people—all relatives and friends —doing every single thing that needed to be done including slaughtering the poor animals, washing utensils, and even doing last-minute cut-and-paste work on the wedding giveaways (yes, even those things were not contracted out, to my utter amazement). And today, during the affair itself, more relatives and friends showed up to do their stint at the kitchen or at the banquet." [read full article ]

05 NOVEMBER 2006 Palanus - a celebration of marriage!
The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) recently conducted the first-ever mass tribal wedding in the country. The event held last Oct. 28 dubbed as "Palanus Festival" gave a chance for our indiginous brothers in Kalinga Apayao to be married in accordance to their tribal culture and traditions and be able to obtain the necessary legal documents recognizing the union. "Palanus" means celebration of marriage union among the Ykalingas. The NCIP is the primary government agency that formulates and implements policies, plans and programs for the recognition, promotion and protection of the rights and well-being of Indigenous Peoples (IPs). Marriage according to customs and traditions, is one IPs right that is being recognized by law through the National Statistics Office (NSO) and the Office of the Civil Registrar (OCR).
