A Grand 'I do' in Cebu!

We got a heads up from Tisha of Bliss Unlimited about a wedding they planned for this Filipino couple (Majell & Steve) who are based in California. Tisha said: "I am especially proud and happy because this wedding incorporated many of our traditions. The couple really wanted to stay true to our culture so we infused a lot of details that were distinctly Filipino." This wedding was featured in the Real Life Couples section of the New York-based Wedding Dresses Magazine (Fall/Winter 2005 issue). We've requested a copy of the page where this Pinoy wedding was featured, and the mag gladly sent us one to us. See the feature here!

Wazzup, Dog?

According to Joseph Chau, resident feng shui master of Mandarin Oriental, the year of the Fire Dog is generally a good year to get married. So consider yourself lucky if your getting hitched this year!

For our PrepTalk this February, we'll be enumerating the auspicious dates for the year based on the Chinese Almanac, but users of myW@W Toolbar can already take a peek of the 'good' dates for 2006.

We have also found an interesting blog entry of a bride about her recent visit in Ongpin (Manila's Chinatown). Kung Hei Fat Choi, everyone!

Mayabang ka rin ba?

Opo, mayabang kami. Dapat mag-yabang ka rin! Inspired by concept of the LiveStrong advocacy, Yabang Pinoy is a campaign to raise awareness and heighten Filipino people's ethos, dignity and pride by advocating the use of a piece of braided abaca band that aims to make a statement. The abaca band aims to signify a Filipino being truly proud to be one. The goal of the Yabang Pinoy campaign is to unite the Filipino people in believing in themselves and in fellow Filipinos. Yummy Oink!

A traditional Pinoy wedding reception is never complete without a lechon (roast pig). But if you want to be a little different than the next handaan, then you might want to consider a pritchon (pritong lechon). The best one we've tasted so far is Charlie's. This new lechon variant is mixed with spring onions and cucumber; wrapped in plain, herb, spinach and tomato pita wedges; and dipped into any one or combination of seven especially concocted sauces (hoisin, honey mustard, white garlic, chili tagalog, sate, honey lemon and liver--the traditional lechon sauce. Too complicated for your guests? Not a problem! Thier service crew goes to your fuction with the pritchon packaged in a hand-woven pandan leaf mat, carved and wrapped in pita wedges right in front of the guests. How's that for presentation? Know more about Charlie's Pritchon.

a book for your Flower Girl

While we're on the topic of artist Roberto Alejandro (read our previous news blog entry below), here's another one of his work that showcases his talent. He's done the illustration for the children's book "Chief Flower Girl" by author Marivi Soliven Blanco. The book tells the story of a little girl's delightful romp down the aisle as she makes sure that her Tita Ria's wedding will truly be an affair to remember. See the some of the wonderful illustration in the book. This would be a nice and practical token for your flower girls; maybe your bearers would want a copy too! We've seen some copies of this title still available at Filipinas Heritage Library at Php 75.00 (US $1.50). That's a steal! =)

Tagaytay Weddings

In yesterday's issue of the Inquirer, Rina Jimenez-David wrote about a wedding she attended in Tagaytay earlier this month. Here's an excerpt: "...weddings are inherently happy occasions, and even the unexpected showers failed to dampen the joy and warmth of the wedding party. The dinner reception was held at the gardens of the family-owned Josephine's Restaurant, and fortunately the wedding planners had the foresight to erect white tents with colorful garlanded awnings. Only in Tagaytay and, perhaps, Baguio City would a tea-and-coffee bar be necessary, for the relief of chilled guests-though the buffet, including a whole roasted calf, was substantial enough to warm us." Paraskevidekatriaphobic?

Yep, it's a real word and pronounced as pair.uh.skee.vee.dek.uh.tree.uh.fho.bick, a person with fear of Friday the 13th. We are aware that days like today is not a popular for weddings but we have read about this couple who did just that last year. According to the news feature: "Friday the 13th is no longer the no-go date it used to be for couples wanting to get married." But if you're a bit superstitious, it might be wise for you to consider another date. Now, if superstitions rule your life, we have a list of Pinoy Wedding Superstitions to get you more paranoid! LOL! Kidding aside, just take everything with a grain of salt as you read the page. ;-)

Titanium is the new Platinum!

There is a growing number of soon-to-weds preferring Titanium wedding rings over Platinum or Gold. Titanium is becoming especially popular among the grooms because of its strength, lightweightness and hypoallergenic properties. It is also dent-, bend-, and scratch-resistant. According to some sources, the black titanium men's wedding bands are quite the rage right now because of its simple and less-flashy appeal. Though we've yet to find a jeweler here in Manila that offers Titanium (sales and service as resizing this hardest natural metal could be a problem), a quick search on the web would lead to countless possibilities. You may start at amazon.com for some design ideas.
