This collection is described as “Timeless silhouettes with remarkable details. Play of glitter and textures showing facets of the bride, reflecting who they are and not anyone else – confident, excited and hopeful for the next chapter of her life.”

You can check out the special video about the 2017 collection made by wedding videographer Jason Magbanua here. What is the story behind the concept of each RTW dress?

You know whenever I work on a wedding gown design I always draw inspiration from the bride because it is imperative that I show her character thru her dress. It is different with RTW dresses since I do not have a specific bride. So I draw inspiration from the essence of being a bride. What it means to be one, the joy, the excitement, the changes that will happen. Basically the girl in that stage of her life. I guess it is not that difficult because I’ve been there so I can totally get her 😛

As always, I want my brides to relate to the dress. Each dress I make cater to a certain character. I want the bride to see herself in the dress that she will choose. Of course, considering her figure, her age and the silhouette that will flatter her the most. [/cs_text][cs_text]

Are you the first designer who did this in wedding?

I really do not know. My very first collection was for 2013 but Rene, my husband, and I started forming the idea in 2011.

Back then, I was getting a lot of inquiries from overseas brides and stockists, most of them clamoring for basically the same designs. And those designs I cannot repeat since those were custom dresses. I was also getting a lot of requests for lower priced gowns: I was getting more than 30 inquiries a day, working on so many dresses too, and I am losing my time for my family. I have 4 growing kids and I need more time.

So creating an RTW line was the most logical idea. I can address the overseas brides and the stockists with designs that we can replicate. And the concept wasn’t new to them. I actually didn’t intend before to offer it here because why would I? I love that brides here can get custom dresses from the neighborhood modista or from tight-lipped high profile designers and wear a dress specially made for them. I didn’t want to change that culture.

But then, when I was done with the very first set, I thought why wouldn’t I offer it to local brides. Parang nakakahiya naman. Ang snob?!? Hahaha! So we did! And I am continuously floored with the response that we’re getting from local brides. I am beyond grateful. [/cs_text][cs_text]

How many pieces per collection? Any science behind it?

8 or 9 per year, no science behind it. I design and create as I see fit, every dress well thought off. With the current market/demand I aim to serve, I think 8 or 9 as new options are enough. Especially since the dresses from the past years are still available. 🙂

What is the process, what comes first? fabrics? design? name?

Usually I think of a detail or a design element that I want to work on. Then I choose the materials that I think will be perfect in achieving the look that I want.

How do you name them?

Of course it started with the girls and ladies in my life. I still have more than a handful of those really close to me whose names I haven’t used. I look at a dress and name her based on how it looks. The character of the name and the dress should match perfectly.

There are times that I lose myself in the process though at yun ang mahirap! Hahaha! Best example, my Mom! I’ve wanted, for the longest time, to name a dress after her but I always end up saying “hindi sya yan eh! Lace mom ko, collared, classic crisp skirt!” Ahahaha! Pinersonal?[/cs_text][cs_text]

You have a favorite?

A lot! But I will only name two 🙂

BITHIA from the 1st collection. I named it after my daughter. It was the simplest from that batch. Plain top just delicate lace on the lining’s neckline, no back detail which was all the craze then along with heavily textured skirts, instead the beading was just on the waist, layered tulle skirt, sans embellishments too. That was exactly how I saw her at the time I designed that dress – not fussy at all, simple but not boring, sweet yet unconforming. Not that I can see her as a bride na ha! No way please! But her character inspired me 🙂

And the VIVIAN gown, my best seller up to now! This enthralls me no end because it is also the very first one I sketched the minute we decided we will push thru with our RTW line. [/cs_text][cs_text]

Since this is RTW do you allow the bride to pick a design even if there’s another one that could be better on her?

Fortunately more often than not, the brides can easily “read” the dress. They see the character it evokes. They can decide if the dress is them or not. More often than not, the concern is the figure. We usually ask which one she fancies, then we check her figure if the design will work for her figure. If it won’t, we suggest other styles that will compliment her best.

There was one instance that one bride was so insistent on a particular dress that I was 100% sure won’t work given her figure. I let her try on the fitting garments with the silhouette that she wanted and the silhouette I want, and she saw the difference. Buti na lang! Haha! Otherwise, I won’t sell her what she wanted. I always want the best for them. Why would I allow her to look hideous di ba? I want her to look her best wearing our dress! [/cs_text][cs_text]

How involved are you with RTW clients?

Oh I have trained my assistants to identify figures, but for those that I wasn’t able to meet in person, whether overseas or Manila-based, I ask for full length pictures of the brides wearing tight fitting shirts. That way I can identify the gowns that will compliment them the most. I check all the fitting pictures too, and of course, the overall workmanship. [/cs_text][cs_text]

Did the onslaught of RTW line of other designer flatter you or infuriate you?

You know, I try my best, nah, I try my darnest not to look at other people’s work as something related to me or to my work because I refuse to be peppered with negative thoughts. RTW is the norm overseas and we do have a lot of overseas Filipino workers who are somehow familiar with the system. Coupled with designer horror stories locally, I think the growth of RTW here is not that surprising. It took us more than a year to perfect the system – from the meas, fittings, to the finishes, construction, etc. I had my good reasons when I started this RTW line and I am sure they have too. It is what it is, we just have to consistently improve our craft, swim with the current flow and hopefully get our fair share. Happy thoughts lang lagi! Hahaha! [/cs_text][cs_text]

Aldub Prenuptial Shoot: The Inside Story

[cs_content][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Everyone’s talking about Alden and Maine’s prenup photos recently released online. For a “reel” prenup, it definitely looked like the real deal and gave Aldub fans something to be “kilig” about. But what is the story behind the shoot?

Today, we share with you some insider information straight from Manny and April, of Manny and April Photography, the photographers behind this fabulous prenup shoot.

How did you get the gig? Did Eat Bulaga contact you directly about the shoot?

MAP: I had a call Friday night around 10pm from coordinator, Mosh Cruz of Event Laboratory Events Management, asking if we are available to shoot AlDub’s prenup the next day, Saturday. Medyo nabingi pa ako kung sino yung client. Hahaha. I needed to double check that we’re talking about Alden and Maine! *FYI shoot was moved to Monday, October 17*

Is this your first time to shoot a ‘reel’ pre-nup? Is there a difference from a ‘real’ prenup?

MAP: Yes, first time. The only difference is the time limit and the rest, it feels like our other prenup shoots.

Who conceptualized the pre-nup shoot?

MAP: We were briefed by Direk Pat and Mosh of Event Laboratory on their concept when we arrived at the location. We just coordinated the sequence of layout and in what particular area to shoot. I loved working with Direk Pat and Mosh. They fully trusted us and it was really great.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AldubPrenupInsideStory1.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]What time did you start and finish?

MAP: Call time namin was at 8am.  We started to shoot at 10:30am but Alden and Maine had to leave for Eat Bulaga at 11:30am. Second set resumed at 2:30pm and we had 1 and half hours para matapos lahat kasama na dun ang change of clothes and make-up retouch. Mosh of Event Laboratory did a great job coordinating everything.

Who were present during the shoot? Were any family members there?

MAP: No family members. Puro suppliers and staff of Eat Bulaga.

Were you guys nervous?

MAP: Yes, we were!  As in, sa kapogian ni Alden. Lols!

Did they just do the poses on their own or did someone guide them?

MAP: We guided them on what to do just like our other shoots.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AldubPrenupInsideStory4.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Who thought of the headstand pose and the pillow fight?

MAP: Nakita na lang sila biglang naka-head stand!  Haha. Yeah, they were just being themselves.  Pillow fight was Direk Pat’s.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_video_player type=”16:9″ src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AlDub_Manny-and-April-Photography-BTS-6-1.mp4″ hide_controls=”false” autoplay=”true” no_container=”false” preload=”auto” advanced_controls=”false” muted=”false” loop=”false” poster=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AlDub_Manny-and-April-Photography-BTS-6-1.mp4″][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]What was your favorite part of the shoot?

MAP: First set (the bedroom scene) is our fave part. They were just being themselves and that’s what we wanted to capture.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AldubPrenupInsideStory2.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AldubPrenupInsideStory3.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]The chemistry is palpable in the photos. Was it really that obvious during the shoot?

MAP: They were natural and very comfortable with each other. You can see it sa photos and some BTS videos that are circulating around Twitter and Instagram.

Were they easy to work with? Makulit rin off-cam?

MAP: Super fun kahit off-cam!  Ang kulit ni Alden and Maine.  They are both easy to work with and I can say everyone had fun.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_video_player type=”16:9″ src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AlDub_Manny-and-April-Photography-BTS-4-1.mp4″ hide_controls=”false” autoplay=”true” no_container=”false” preload=”auto” advanced_controls=”false” muted=”false” loop=”false” poster=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AlDub_Manny-and-April-Photography-BTS-4-1.mp4″][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Were they really sweet with each other or was it just for the camera?

MAP: Yes.

If they weren’t actors and regardless of their status, did Alden and Maine look like any other bride or groom?

MAP: Yes.

Kinikilig ba kayo during the shoot? How did you control yourselves?

MAP: BIG YES! Though yung feeling na yun nung on location na si Alden and Maine.  Nung nadun na sila, napalitan yung kilig to “we need to deliver”.  Andun yung pressure e! We had limited time on our 2nd to 4th set.  We prayed that with the given time na we could get the photos we wanted.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/AldubPrenupInsideStory5.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Did it feel like a prenup shoot or did it really feel like a corporate job?

MAP: It felt like a prenup shoot. 🙂

What surprised you about this shoot?

MAP: The moment Maine mentioned our name sa TV, my Instagram account went crazy and it just goes and goes and goes!   Iba ang love ng AlDubNation with Alden and Maine.  I also had calls from suppliers and fans.  Nasurprise din ako na may neighbors kami na pumunta pa sa bahay namin because fan sila ng AlDub.

This year, The Wedding Library asked some brides for ideas on any needs in the wedding industry that have yet to be met and two of the most predominant answers were wedding planning seminars and ocular visits to reception venues. Voila! The Wedding Tour was born.

Also available to debutantes, the tour likewise gives couples an opportunity to network with other about-to-be-wed couples and get tips from long time wedding suppliers, all in one fun-filled, enriching, and worthwhile day. The Wedding Tour promises to be:

Fun: Couples get to mingle with each other, play games, share tips, talk about common experiences and issues and more while en route to the venues.
Convenient: Couples do not need to sweat driving through traffic and worrying about parking.
Educational: A newlywed speaker and a wedding supplier will share tips to the couples/debutantes en route to the venues.
Time Saving: There will be 3-5 venues featured in one day. As this will be a scheduled group visit, the venues will be ready to present to The Wedding Tour participants.
Cost Efficient: The tour price is a fraction of what will normally be spent on gas, parking, and lunch to visit all 3-5 venues.

As if that’s not enough, some of the venues will also be giving discounts or freebies to The Wedding Tour participants. More freebies and games en route to the venues also await participants. Couples can enjoy all of these for a tour price of only Php 750 per person, maximum of 2 persons per wedding/debut per tour.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_image type=”none” src=”https://weddingsatwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/WeddingTour3.jpg” alt=”” link=”false” href=”#” title=”” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Couples can also choose among different types of tours depending on the budget they are allocating for the venue and caterer. Church Annulment Reforms and Women Who Sought Annulment

[x_section style=”margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 45px 0px 45px 0px; “][x_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” bg_color=”” style=”margin: 0px auto 0px auto; padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_column bg_color=”” type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px; “][x_text]The reforms in annulment procedures introduced by the Catholic church recently are being received differently by the different sectors of society.

W@W, on the other hand, decided to have a chat with women who have actually gone through the long and excruciating process of seeking annulment from their once abusive marriages and ask them how they feel about the Vatican’s announcement.

Desire to show mercy
“Very much welcome,” says Rochelle, who has been granted civil annulment by the courts but is still awaiting the Catholic church to declare her marriage annulled. “

“I’m legally annulled. In the eyes of the law, I am free, I can change back to my maiden name, and I’m allowed to remarry if I wish to. But my church annulment is ongoing. It’s been more than a year since I filed the petitioned but until now, my petition has no movement or update. In the eyes of the Catholic Church, I remain married (even though I’m legally free) and I cannot remarry under Catholic rites.
The church annulment is extremely frustrating. It’s like the Church doesn’t want you to move on.”

Catholics who seek for annulment have to go through more than one process- civil and church processes, if they wish to marry again with the blessing of the church.

Not being granted annulment by the church can take an emotional toll on those whose marriages have only been annulled civilly.

For them, it feels as if they are still morally tied to their previous partners from whom they want to move on.

The Catholic church’s desire is to show mercy to those who have gone through traumatic unions, opening the doors for couples who have divorced to go back to the sacraments.

Church annulment is free
Mandy, who is not a Catholic, sees the Pope’s announcement as a welcome change.

“Annulment should not be so difficult to obtain. What happens is that only those who can afford can file for an annulment. For those who cannot afford, some don’t even get married just so they won’t be hampered by legalities of marriage and staying married. Those women (or men!) who are in abusive marriages have an option to get out of it.”

One of the difficulties you encounter when you file for annulment in the Philippines is the cost.

Filing fees in courts alone will already cost you around Php 10,000, then there are legal fees, pleading fees, fees for court appearances and psychologist fees to worry about.

But more than the cost is the emotional and psychological participation that is required from you.

Rochelle recalls her experience as emotionally and mentally taxing and exhausting. “I must have written three versions of my story (1 for the lawyer, 1 for the psychologist and 1 for the church). Every time the lawyer would send me drafts of the documents to be submitted to the court, I would have to re-read my story over and over again. Then, I had to relive it again during the court hearings. Aside from my own testimony in court, we had to present two other witnesses and I had to attend all those hearings. So it’s another instance of hearing your story again and again.

Then you have the church annulment expenses to think about after going through all that.

Some annulment cases are considered too complicated to be decided upon on a local level and are brought up to the special courts at the Vatican or Rota which can cost you thousands of dollars.
Pope Francis declares in the new annulment procedures that annulments should be free. He also allows bishops to make the final decisions without having to course it through second and third tribunals.

With the new reforms, the granting of annulments must be decided upon 45 days upon being received.

The Catholic church maintains indissolubility of marriage
The Catholic church is quick to correct the misconception that it is encouraging nor promoting divorce and separation among married couples.

It maintains prerequisites for annulment such as psychological incapacities, unwillingness to have children and other valid grounds, in accordance to the values and beliefs of the Catholic church.

What the church is doing is only streamlining and simplifying what once was an outdated, obsolete and lengthy procedure in allowing annulment for those who present valid reasons for it.
In the words of Father James Bretzke, theology professor of Boston College, “The pope is seeking to respond pastorally to the tens of thousands of couples who are experiencing profound pain and alienation as a result of broken marriages.”

Pushing for new beginnings
After going through the painful process, Mandy is hopeful for new beginnings.
“Getting a marriage dissolved from a difficult person is difficult and complicated” she says. “Mine took a few years, 3 or more I think. Putting down to words in a petition was like reliving through the bad experiences I had in marriage, but it also made me look forward and become hopeful that I don’t need to stay in that kind of marriage and that hopefully, I will not make the same mistakes and choose more carefully in the future.”

Rochelle, on the other hand, says, “I’m a bit lucky because my annulment only took about 1 1/2 years. That’s fast, compared to other cases. But the toll is just as hard.”
She continues, “Nobody should be subjected to that kind of emotional and mental distress. Being in an abusive marriage is hard as it is. Getting out of it should not be that difficult and punishing.”

Happy Andrada Launches Spring/Summer 2016 Bridal Collection

Every bride wants to beautiful on her wedding day. When a bride walks down the aisle, the best feelings are happiness and giddiness because she is about to marry the man of her dreams. That ‘kilig’ factor is what designer Happy Andrada wants her every bride to feel.

We are happy to show Happy’s Spring/Summer 2016 Bridal Collection and we are definitely swooning over how gorgeous the gowns are. We asked Happy to share more about her new collection.

What is your collection about?

It is my Spring/ Summer 2016 collection for brides, bridesmaids and flower girls.

WaW Happy Andrada1When did you start working on the collection ?

I started my new line early this year. It took me around six months to finish it as I balanced time with bridal clients and working on my collection.

What are the rewards/fulfillment in coming up with a collection?

The best reward is to be able to showcase my creations to my clients and to show them what a Happy Andrada bride is all about. 🙂

WaW Happy Andrada4What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?

I took inspiration from spring and blushing brides. I want it to be fun, young, fresh, and fab. I played around with layers, patterns, treatments and textures.

WaW Happy Andrada2When a bride sees the gown, what do you want her to think or feel?

I want them to feel giddy/kilig and, of course, happy!

WaW Happy Andrada3The photos are gorgeous. Who did you work with for the shoot?

It was a collaboration with different partners. The flowers and set design was from Designer Blooms and photography was by Darrel Pobre.

WaW Happy Andrada7Are you planning to have an event to formally launch the collection?

We are finalizing the details but we will definitely let you know.
