WaW Before I Do: The Importance of Wise Counsel

In Blog, WaW Before I do by Team WaWLeave a Comment

There was a guy working in our office who discovered that his wife was cheating on him.  He called me for some advice and after hearing him out I told him to give his wife a chance but to make sure she is repentant and that the affair was over. He started crying and said “I’ve asked advice from so many friends and all of them said the same thing — leave her! but after hearing you, yours made the most sense.”  So, he followed my advice and got back together. Proverbs 11:14 says “Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.” Not only in Marriage but anything that we do, it is always good to have good advisors around you. You can never be too good or too experienced to not need one.  And a trusted adviser, gives us a third person perspective about the situation and shows us our blind spots. Here is a sad fact: There are no schools (at least in the Philippines) that offer courses on how to be a better husband, wife or parent.  So, who or where do you go to for advice? With the # of cases of broken families, sometimes we can only look into what we’ve seen …

WaW Before I Do: 5 Questions Couples Must Ask Before They Tie The Knot

In Blog, WaW Before I do by Team WaW2 Comments

Before they marry, specially in the few days prior, couples are often faced by multitudes of questions.  Some of these questions are ok to be left unanswered as they are not as toxic or as harmful as some.  These are questions that are just part of the wedding jitters but there are some that should never ever be brushed aside because these are supposed to trigger warning signs should you be not ready. I know it’s been said before to almost all people getting married that “any sign of doubt, you should put off the wedding” but out of every 100 weddings, how many do you think gets set aside until smoke clears out? One or maybe not even.  Usually, we pay more attention to the stronger feeling of (1) Shame – what will people say?  We’ve already sent out invites, (2) Waste – we’ve already spent so much and (3) Confidence – maybe its just part of getting married and we’ll just sort it out once we are there. Well, do me a favor and keep the questions that I mention… dwell on it and be sure of your answers. So if you seriously used the questions above to figure out whether you are with …

WaW Dinner Part 2

In Blog, Featured by Team WaWLeave a Comment

Mimma Benz has always been generous to us WaWies. She will not hesitate to set aside a portion of her hectic schedule just to be with us, unless she has something important to attend to. You will really see her eyes sparkle with excitement whenever she’s with her WaWies and NaWies (Newlyweds at Work). Since we’re very spoiled, she’s giving us the opportunity to meet some of the wedding industry’s best suppliers. Kaya’t hindi ko na pinalampas itong second WaW Dinner, because I felt really sad when I wasn’t able to attend the first one. Anyway, just like the first WaW dinner, everyone brought their share of potluck food. We’ve had crispy pata, buttered chicken, barbecue, pancit malabon, shrimp, kakanin, ice cream, micro greens, and cake! Yum! The wedding supplier hosts this time were Phoeben and Gen Teocson (videographer). They were joined by fellow suppliers Paul Vincent and his wife Ayvih (photographer), and Queen David and husband David (coordinator). My fiancé and I have never met any of these suppliers before, but we were warmly welcomed like we’ve been friends with them for so long. Feeling close ako agad sa kanila. Haha! The house was homey and comfortable. We immediately …

WaW Supplier’s Potluck Lunch

In Blog, Featured, WaW Suppliers by Team WaWLeave a Comment

December is considered to be the busiest month for wedding suppliers. It is during this time when you will hear of back-to-back-to-back events being the norm for all professionals in this industry. However, before the December madness settled in this year, some of the industry’s suppliers met up at The Mango Farm and discussed the state of the Philippine wedding industry. They discussed how they could improve the services that they offered and how they could adapt to a fluid and competitive market. There are fresher takes on photographs and more personal ways coordinators make their presence known. It has come to a point where new services that haven’t been thought about before are now being offered. The ingenuity and the entrepreneurial spirit of the Filipinos in this industry is on full display each year and this year is no different at all. The potluck lunch-slash-forum was headed owner and founder of Weddings at Work, Benz Co-Rana and was hosted by Dylan Gozum from The Mango Farm. The goal of the meeting is to help each other stand out when it comes to servicing the brides and grooms of the future. Some of the key takeaways from the open forum …

The WaW Online Bridal Fair

In Blog, Events, What's New by Team WaW29 Comments

Weddings at Work has always aimed to make wedding planning as easy as possible for brides and grooms. In effort to do just that, we have created the WaW Online Bridal Fair, which allows you to attend a bridal fair in the comfort of your own home. Yes, no need to get out of your pajamas just to gain access to discounts and promos from your favorite wedding suppliers! When It All Started When we were planning our wedding, we were one of the first few couples in the country to have a website. Now, every other couple has their own blog, Pinterest board, wedding sites. Things do change! I remember having to meet all our suppliers and paying them in person. There was no way around it – we had to meet with them. But with the traffic situation now, just thinking of leaving the house might give you a headache (Just think of EDSA and Waze’s red roads!). Besides, now, brides can always communicate with their suppliers through social media, SMS, and what have you’s. Personal meetings are not a must like it used to be. Even down payments can be done online! So, we thought “Why not …

WaW Before I Do: Understanding Your Covenant

In Blog, WaW Before I do by Team WaWLeave a Comment

One of the common questions we get as counselors is this “If you catch your spouse with a 3rd party, is that enough reason to quit the marriage?” Or “What if you’re not happy with the marriage, what do you do?” Our general answer is “Stay and work it out!”. The only reason we can think of that can justify ending the relationship is when your life is in danger. Other than that, go back and work it out. One of our other common reply also is “Are you sure that you have totally exhausted all possible measures?” If they say yes then we give them things that usually couples have not tried. Have you ever tried working out in the gym and think you can’t do another rep, till your trainer or spotter says “Go! 3 more!” and you end up being able to do it. When you think you’ve exhausted everything, contact us and we’ll show you how you can do 3 more things to keep that relationship alive. Husband & Wives, as they enter the marriage, should stick into their minds that there are “No escape buttons, no ejects and no quits in marriage”. It’s different when …

Kaye Abad and Paul Jake Castillo’s Behind-The-Scenes and Official Wedding Pics – My Story

In Blog, W@Wparazzi by Team WaWLeave a Comment

Oh what a beautiful wedding it was. One of the sweetest ones I’ve witnessed. The Cebu wedding though had a lot of guests (900 pax!) still felt intimate. The festivities started as early as the day before the wedding, when guests started coming in from manila and all over the world. Dec 8, the night before the wedding we had an impromptu get together at the bridal suite of the bride, Kaye. It was a sweet moment seeing Kaye bond with her closest best friends and family during the last night as a single woman. The day of the wedding, we were all busy and up and about by 8:30 am. Preparations started and I was busy shuttling between the bridal suite and Paul Jake’s room. It was heartwarming to see them both up close and personal and just witnessing how excited they were that finally they are marrying the love of their lives in a few hours. At promptly 2 pm, the caravan of Paul Jake and about 10 Mercedes Benz vehicles left for the church. This was documented using our aerial drone for almost the whole travel time! Wow what a scene it was :) I left together …

WaWies Dinner

In Blog, Featured by Team WaWLeave a Comment

Last November 25, we organized a dinner among some WaWies and some popular wedding suppliers. It was so fun that we decided to organize another WaWie Dinner tonight! Meanwhile, here’s Jezalin Panaligan to tell you the story of what happened during the first one.   What do you get when you bring together eight soon-to-weds, the woman behind W@W, and three of the most reputable suppliers in the wedding industry together in one dinner table? Six straight hours of spontaneous conversations, endless laughs and extremely valuable new learnings. I was one of the lucky few who got a seat at that table. I joined the WaWies Facebook group exactly one month after getting engaged. One of my best friends who got married invited me to be part of the group. The group is overflowing with helpful topics from brides-to-be and even those who already “graduated.” One lucky evening, Mimma Benz posted an invite for a casual dinner with Jason, Madge, and Veluz. Seeing the opportunity to get to know fellow WaWies and hearing tips from the suppliers themselves, I reserved a slot. We were told that it was going to be a casual dinner, we brought potluck desserts and snacks …

WaW Wedding Tip Sheet: Invitations

In Blog, WaW Wedding Tip Sheet by Team WaWLeave a Comment

We’ve been receiving inquiries regarding the preparation of invitations; thus, we thought of writing a blog post regarding the essentials. Top 10 things you need to remember when writing and addressing your wedding invitations: Tricky point: What if you’re inviting a mayor to be your godparent and your wedding date happens to be after elections? What if he loses? What if he wins but for a different position? Response: Just write Hon. (short for Honorable) beside his name. That way, you won’t have to worry about whether or not he would win or change his position. Possible concerns: a. wrong spelling/wrong title b. they also invited other possible godparents or entourage members without telling you in advance c. you forgot to include your parents’ names or their appropriate titles Note: Some invite makers will ask you to sign a form that you read all the items of the invite and you agree that it should be the version that gets printed. Make sure you really read all words included in the invite. That way, no problem will arise later on when you get the whole batch of printouts. The most common way of presenting the names would be this way: …
